I'm biracial.
When I'm with friends\family of color A service is all smile and courtesy.
When I'm with friends\family of color B service is deliver with cold apathy. The look of disgust that we are even in the joint.
I have spent most of my life overtipping just to prove a point that just because the table is filled with black folk doesn't mean anything.
Whether its at a restaurant or just trying to pay for some merchandise at a check out counter....if you are not the right skin tone or you are with folks with a little brown you get cold reactions. The white person in front of you gets all the smiles and and have a good day.
Bring a caucasian and everyone is magically friendly.
Since my race is hard to figure out just by looking at me I fall have to make sure I establish I am "accent free" to get any sort of friendly interaction. If the other person speaks first its usually "Look at this illegal immigrant" attitude. If I speak firt with the "New York\Long Island accent" treatment is completely different.
Whats awesome is that my kids have completely different complexions with my oldest having my complexion and the youngest basically looking like aryan nation.
If I'm out with just the youngest I get a lot of suspicious stares like I kidnapped him. If I'm with the oldest I get ignored. If I'm with both of them people tend to go into seizures.
Going back to the OP....those asshole are just making it worse for the rest of us. All that note does is further the notion that blacks aren't going to leave a decent tip.
Took me 20+ years to finally get my mom to leave an appropriate tip. These folks are just going to sabotage all that effort.
While your experiences definitely suck, the people who wrote the note didn't get that. They even said that the service was great. Their gripe was a late check. As far as we know, they kept chatting away, getting drinks and shrugging away the waiter.
163$ for a table of two. That must have been some fancy meal. How do you even spend that much on food? Assuming it was a high class restaurant, I would assume anyone walking in had money to tip no matter what they looked like.
Reddit took down the topic from the front page. Maybe it was a troll post?
Edit:
Okay, I found it. Reddit just took it off the front page.

Or the other couple specifically asked for a check. Often I don't get a check unless I ask because the servers don't want to give the impression that they are rushing me.
I get the impression that if the no-tippers got their check before the white group, then their complaint would be that the waiters were racist for trying to rush them out of the restaurant.
