Good free word processor?

Whats a good word processor, thats free to download?

OpenOffice Writer is free. I was going to suggest Office 2007 Beta, but it looks like MS has introduced a 1.50 fee for Beta 2.

In addition to OpenOffice Write (you download the whole OO suite, and Write is among the several applications included), and AbiWord, both of which I know are good, there is also:

I don't know how good it is, but it's been in the news because Google is about to, or has bought it, as a free web-based word proccessor. So instead of downloading, you'd just use it through Firefox or whatever your web browser is.
Just thought I'd toss Writely into the pool with the others for you.

I've used OO Write a lot. As a long time a native of MS Word, it was annoying to get the hang of OO Write. It does about the same as MS Word, but its menus are very different, with commands in unfamiliar locations that you have to re-learn. That makes you aware that you were (I was) on automatic pilot using MS Word.


Edit: It looks like Goole has it under the name GOffice now, for $0.99 per month.

another vote for Abiword.

gOffice about page says they are not affiliated with Google. Writely is the only web-based word processor that google owns, at the moment.

I use OpenOffice at home. Admittedly I don't do anything particularly advanced at home, so I haven't really noticed any differences from Office 2000 that we use at work.

OO gets my vote anyway.

OK, here's a trout endorsement

I set up a private christian school with a dozen win2k machines with OO. They use almost every aspect of the suite, and are working on lesson plans for the math program.
It can open word, excel, and powerpoint documents. It can save as word, excel, and powerpoint.
