Ive just been trying to play some old not too popular games to find that surprise surprise they either dont work or perform poorly and since they werent all that popular theres no patches for specific problems or anything. Its bullcrap. Beginning to hate dual core and X1900XT.

Anyways, my little list of games that werent popular but were still fun:

Earth 2150/moon project/lost souls - Such a good game! If you like c&c this is great, its 3d RTS done right, shame theres no FMV's or anything. Looks amazing even on a PII. Funnily enough a PII with a geforce 4 outperforms my main gaming rig, strange eh? Anyways its got some really neat features that make RTS less boring. You can design your own units, pick your own research, and attach your own type of turret to a building, fully customizeable base OR you can build 4 HQ's and have them manage research/construction/turrets & upgrades/defence, pretty kewl since upgrading can be a pita. Also you can dig underground tunnels and send units through them. Not like the lame way tib sun did underground, but a whole other level to the map that consists of tunnels you make, no underground bases though

Giants citizen kabuto - This game was funny and fun! The part where you find the "survivor from dick whittington prison was great you can fly around in this game too! Yes, an fps that you can fly in, and build a base in, multiplayer was real fun, unless you were kabuto the big giant whos on his own and cant jump high enough to kill the helicopters everyone else would get.

Recoil - You are a tank, you got laser type gun things, and a changeable main gun, it can fire fire, or ice, or mortar, or electricity, tonsa stuff. Was pretty good when it came out, tad repetitive but still fun.

Imperium galactica II - Its civilisation in space, with destroyers corvettes cruisers and the mighty battleship. Its also got ground combat with tanks. Theres diplomacy (kinda simplistic though) and spying and trading and buying ships from the market. Its a really good game, no idea why it didnt catch on.

Add to my list if you know of any good games that werent popular.

Heh.. I remember that. I got the demo on a PC Gamer disc or something. Played it A LOT (with my 2meg ATI Rage II, IIRC ).

Fun game.

Two that I enjoyed playing that weren't mainstream popular were Red Faction and the Virtual Pool series (mainly VP2 and VP3).

Microsoft's Motocross Madness 1 and 2 both were extremely fun. Would those be considered popular games?

I hear PlaneScape:Torment was great, but I have never played it, I am knee deep in Baldur's Gate.

The Jedi Knight series wasn't *as* popular, I believe. Although I do love them!

I never played the first Dark Forces, but JK: Dark Forces 2 is still one of my favorite games. I still go back every few years and replay it.

Multiplayer JKF2 on The Zone was a blast.

I totally dug Red Faction although Red Faction 2 was a dissappointment. I also liked the MS Motocross Madness games too. The old MotoRacer game was a lot of fun and I recently tried to re-install it but it needs to run on old equipment.

Another game I really liked a lot was Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force.

I've been thinking about digging out my old Red Faction and Elite Force disks and playing those two again.

One of the best examples of this is Freespace 2, mostly due to a lack of proper marketing by the publisher, Interplay. The source code was released in 2002 though and the game has been heavily upgraded since then. It's freely available now and definitely worth checking out at HLP. (well, don't go there today, as it's talk like a pirate day and the posts are all messed up )

There are also a couple I can think of from the mid-90s. One is Time Commando, a third person fighting type game that is probably one of the shortest games ever (you can beat it in a little over a hour), but has an incredible fun factor. Two others I remember are the adventure games Mission Critical and The Lost Files: Case of the Rose Tattoo. I have actually only played the HOTU version of the latter, which is missing the voices. The ebay prices for it go quite high and I can't find any US sellers carrying it.

I have this game too. It actually has a primitive geomod system; you can make dents in the ground with the mortars.

Great game; sold poorly enough that we never got another game in the same vein

I loved the single-player and deathmatch, even though the lightsabre fights were more like wacking people with baseball bats. One of my favorite ways to get accused of cheating was this; DM games were set with a mamimum number of force points. Once you choose to use a certain amount, you get restricted to only DS or LS powers. BUT, if you willingly used less force points than the max, you'd still have access to both. You'd have less or less powerful force powers compared to everyone else, but you'd have a bigger pool of skills to pul from. Amazing the number of people who never twigged onto that.

Will everybody please stop calling Planescape a "game"? It's ART!

I loved Ground Control- not the best RTS but ahead of its time IMO and under rated

Perhaps not old enough? Chronicles of Riddick (Escape from Butcher Bay) wasn't popular (in the way that most movie titles aren't)- but I thought it was pretty good. It is dirt cheap now too. You could try the demo

Armed and Dangerous. it was made by Lucas Arts. 3rd person shooter. Was very fun to play and the game itself was hilarious. So much funny stuff going on.

Jane's Longbow and Longbow 2.

These had a niche market, but damn.. they were awesome games..
RTS type of war game, with kick @$$ graphics.. minus the artificial, arcade BS..

I wish I wouldn't have sold my copies way back in the day..

....I was just gonna say. In fact, the Xbox rag mentioned it as one of the best games last year that no one played (guess it was a console game too).

I bought it and played it for awhile. It is a very weird but good game. One of the legions that I never finish.
