Goodbye to a group of stores that probably had decent customer service.
Hello to a corporate company that is completely and utterly incompetent.

I recently had an experience with a recently converted Good Guys/Compusa store. I bought online and selected in store pick up. Here is how it went....

God damn CompUSSR!

So I ordered online this morning. Got a pick up reciept, in stock, all good.


Get to the store and the idiots realize they are out of stock (another customer had the same problem).

I am pissed off and give the manager a piece of my mind about the POS CompUSSR inventory system (not the first time their stock levels have lied).

UGH, in the end they offered to ship me one (free s/h) but still...


WHEN WILL COMPUSA OVERHAUL THEIR WORTHLESS INVENTORY SYSTEM THAT IS NEVER EVER ACCURATE???!!!???

In the end, it took over 10 days to recieve the damn thing. What a hassle.

I took a look in the local store. Most items were 10% off and open box itmes were 20% off. I'm thinking of making offers on some stuff.

My friend said that good guys, the discount is now 30-40% off on all items. Anyone been to good guys and finding anything worth buying?

Well my stepdad picked up a Sony H1 camera for $400 (after 20% off)....most of the things were still 20% off, car audio is 30% off. I picked up a DirecTiVo (80 gb) unit for $80. There might be some stuff that's worth while. Just depends on what there and what would be an impulse buy.

Yeah, most stuff that was only 20% off before has been marked down to 30%. I picked up a subwoofer that was 30% off and the store was pretty busy. Not much stuff is a great deal unless you just happen to be shopping for a new tv or speaker system.

I'm still paying off (with no interest) a Sony rear-projection LCD tv that we bought at Good Guys almost three years ago. The store my wife and I went to in Beaverton, OR was always competitive... they had to be, with a CC across the street. When I bought the TV, they even reminded me I could price match or do exchanges as much as I wanted for the first 30 days. Needless to say, I went back and did it 4 times while CC had random sales that month, and knocked another 400 bucks off the price. Plus 3 years no interest financing?? Maybe that's why they went out of business

OMG, that echoes the experience I had in January. CompUSA had Antec Super LAN Boy cases for $40 AR. I drove 130 miles (YES one hundred thirty miles) to the nearest store that listed "in stock" on the site. Was it? Heck no! They did offer to ship it to me for free... took about 3 weeks and almost missed the rebate date.

Good Guys didn't fold from low prices, the local one here was also across the street from CC, and always stuck to the price match stuff, ie you only get the good price if you are willing to waste a lot of time and happen to catch an ad on the exact same product.

Bad, and frequently changing product mix, and terrible prices on most stuff. Most people just learned to shop elsewhere, same for Compusa. When Frys and Costco have 25 people busy working checkout registers, and Compusa has 5 nerds walking around with the ad buying sale items only, the nail is in the coffin.

went by GG this weekend, they had the 'ol Markup %20 then give a %30 discount sale going.
