Good headset to chat with?

I've switched from consoles to a gaming PC, and the one thing I don't have yet is a headset to replace my old 360 one.

Anyone have a good recommendation?

Wireless would be really good for me because my computer is in the closet and I play games from the couch with a gamepad.

Looking just at amazon, I see the Logitech G930 seems to be a big seller, but it is a couple of years old. I've also seen the Astro A40 but that is ridiculously expensive. I do not need the very best.

G930 is pretty good. The range of wireless is a lot further than advertised (basement to 2nd floor or basement to immediately outside front/back door). Sound quality is good but bass distorts at high volume (you will probably want to use the software and turn down the bass a few notches if you are listening on high volume). The 3D audio from drivers is really good. Microphone quality is excellent and can be muted with button or by flipping it upward. The voice distortion features in the driver are good for trolling people or messing around. The G keys (multifunction buttons) are more helpful than you'd think, let you switch songs while you're taking a crap or on treadmill, or pause/rewind playback of video, etc etc. You can use it with ventrilo as push to talk while you go afk. You can use them to do any sort of macro. I had a pair that worked perfect for about 10 months then the right ear audio went dead. RMA'd and new pair has been good so far.

I had a $35ish pair of sony headphones I used before and I compared audio in the matrix fight scenes with both headphones and the difference was huge as expected. It was actually a bigger difference than I expected, there were sounds of glass breaking and stuff that were 100% not there with the cheaper headphones and sounded very nice on the G930.

They are also extremely comfortable, I wear them all day everyday pretty much. They block a fair amount of outside sound so you will probably miss phone calls and stuff. I often watch tv while I play games so I have to turn the tv volume way up. Only negative is that they aren't very breathable and they will make your ears kinda warm but not too bad.

Battery life is also pretty good, starts out at probably 8-10 hours and decreases over time. You can charge while using them and then unplug if you want to get up. They recharge really fast, maybe 1-2 hours while you use them. I'll probably get a new battery pack in a year or so.

If you get them, in the software go to options and disable the advanced graphics in the logitech gaming software settings, otherwise you may get errors if you are using Nvidia video card and playing games.

I used these things a lot and I would buy them again if they die or something. Any questions lmk. I've also used sennheiser pc 350 which my brother owns and the sound quality imo is pretty similar but you need an amplifier for those headphones or they sound like shit, and amplifier is not cheap. Had to get $200 top of the line soundcard to get similar audio quality and volume out of those. Those do block more sound I would say though, but aren't wireless and no Gkeys which are 2 of the best features imo.

I wouldn't worry about a headset because it's a couple years old. That doesn't really matter. It's not like a video card that goes obsolete in 12 months.

I just bought a set of Steelseries Siberia V2s. Not sure on the durability yet but they sound great compared to to the Creative one I had before.
Plus they are not that expensive. HHGregg has them on sale for $60.

I've been using these for about a year and a half. They aren't wireless, but they are stupidly comfortable which is crucial for us no-life PC gamers haha and they have decent sound, although it's definitely tuned for gaming with more prominent mid/high range. I recommend them.

G930 is pretty good.
Total understatement, imo. I wouldn't use anything else. I bought mine about 1.5 years ago and I've had no issues yet. When I was shopping around and trying other good quality headsets I had to look in the 250$ range to find anything as good as the g930, and upwards of 300$ to find something noticeably better.

I had a really hard time finding a headset that is confortable. They tend to put a lot of pressure on my ears. I went through a half dozen that were recomended. The only one that I could use for gaming and voice was the Logitech G930. Lucky me, since those are an outstanding heatset. Best money I ever spent on a toy in the last 2 years.

Also the Logitech G930 is so great that I have contemplated buying another one just in case they stop selling them... I sure hope they don't discontinue that product...

I went through 3 pairs of the G35 within the 2 year warranty because the ear piece kept snapping at the swivel.

I was looking for a new pair and was interested in the G930 myself but I'm hesitant to give Logitech anymore money for putting out the G35 with such a poor design feature.

How well built is the G930 compared to the G35?

I actually cannot stand over ear headphones (don't like my ears getting hot), so I use a set of Bose in-ears.

I have been very happy with them. They do require a cheap adapter to work with my PC, as they have the mic/speaker on the same plug (Works on phones and many laptops). But good sound, and the mic works fine unless you are trying to do audio comentary or something. Then they are not ideal.

I don't think any of the headsets on offer can really be considered good. Depends on your definition of good I guess. Personally I prefer combining a good set of cans with a modmic that gets me a pretty good mic attached to some thoroughly excellent headphones. And the mic is even removable. Depends of course how much you can spend but I have had plenty of cheap cans and the quality ones have stuck around for 10 years or more.

True enough. Recommend a mic that'll attach to a set of cans then.

Got my G930 when it was on sale for $100 at Staples. Coupled with a $25 off $75 coupon, it's hard to beat that quality in a wireless headset for $75.
