Good i5 HSF ~$40?

I was hoping someone could recommend a respectable i5 HSF in the $40 range. I'll be using the stock HSF initially, but I might be trying for a modest overclock in the future. Any recommendations?

I'd prefer something that doesn't sound like a hair dryer.

I grabbed a 212 Hyper Plus (the original 212 is not 1156 compatible) however I'm noticing this heatsink is gigantic. It's about 6.2 inches "high" and my case is only 8 inches wide. I'm worried it might not fit (or I'll have to remove the side fan, which is fine).

Any thoughts?

The base design of the CM 212 + scares me. Heatpipes overlapping onto the baseplate? Ughh.

I really hope the Thermalright MUX-120 makes it out before Xmas.

The 212 is a great heatsink for the money, one of the best values. No need to be scared of anything unit is excellent.

The Sunbeam Core Contact is also an excellent unit, right up there with the best coolers.

How well does Core i5 OC with stock HSF? How much do temps rise with higher frequencies?

I like that chip but I suspect it makes too much heat.

Isn't the arctic freezer 7 pro compatible with i5? or maybe not, but worth a look.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. You'll need Revision 2/B so that it comes with a backplate compatible with the i5 socket, but you can't beat it for the money. Get that and then get some Masscool Shin-Etsu G751 for thermal paste. Between the two you'll do pretty good. For a few dollars more a good mod on the Freezer 7 Pro is to first lap it flat, then to remove the 92mm fan that comes with it and zip tie on two Panaflo 92mm fans in push/pull.

Doesn't the 212+ already beat the F7P for the money, by being cheaper and performing better?

I haven't come across any reviews for the new revision, so enlighten me if you have them.

The arctic 7 is about 2 inches "shorter" so it might be a better option. I ended up getting the 212+, but if it doesn't fit I'm exchanging it for the a7.

There are other shorter heatsinks out there too, like the Cooler Master TX3 or N520 or Xigmatek HDT-SD964. I can't be sure how they compare with the F7P, but I'm pretty sure the Xigmatek 964 is a better cooler.

I'm not sure, I haven't really dealt much with the 212+. How I use the AC F7P though, it tends to beat out anything else under $50 at least. I don't use the stock fan, and I lap it. Biggest issue with F7P from the factory is it really really really needs to be lapped. It performs remarkably well when that's done though.

I have other coolers I use on bigger builds, but when size or cost matters I always use the F7P. If the 212+ really does beat it, I may give it a shot on one of the existing boxes to see how it compares.
