Good inexpensive non-TN?

10 years ago I bought my monitor refurbished, and I've been really happy with it. It's a 1920x1200 MVA panel, colors were great at the time compared with the competition, less ghosting and image persistence than IPS panels at the time. However, last week it flickered a few times, so I'm shopping around for a replacement when it dies.

I'm looking for a non-TN panel. Thin bezel is preferable. High refresh rate isn't necessary, but if it's little more expensive I wouldn't mind. I'm looking for something in the 27-28" range, and 1080P would be alright but if I can find an inexpensive 1440 screen that would be preferable.

Is this a lot to ask for under $200? What are some great "value" ~27" 1440P and 1080P screens?

Tough for 1440p, but doable as long as you can wait for deals. Given that you hold on to your monitor for so long I say forget 1080p and hold out for a 1440p deal.

This deal just popped up:

http://flash.newegg.com/Product/9SIAB714834412?icid=WP_0_10202016

The monitor has pretty decent reviews:

Plus you have holiday shopping deals coming up.

I'll be selling a Dell U2713HM around that price range soon, maybe a bit more -- 1440p IPS panel, good color accuracy and low response time.

Even if you don't buy mine, still highly recommended if you can find another good used one. I'm replacing it with another similar Dell Ultrasharp, their UP3216Q, which I'm really hoping is a similarly nice panel, just with some extra resolution and size.

I've never bought one used, but Dell monitors are great and usually come with a 3-year advanced replacement warranty.

If you can buy them when there is a deal, they are a good value.

I'll 3rd the Dell recommendation. I've always found their higher end monitors to be quite nice and extremely reliable.

Tom's certainly gave a rave review. I'm a bit torn - I love my VA, and deep blacks are attractive to me. Something like a Dell U2713HM would have higher resolution and better response time, probably better color accuracy (though I have a hardware calibration unit), and slightly better viewing angles. That contrast ratio though... and the lower resolution has benefits, considering I have an old and relatively low-end video card. I'll have to sleep on it.

Sleeping on it for you can't hurt and gives you more time to build up a bigger budget. Sock away $10-$100 a month and it will add up quickly so when you do decide to buy you can get a better monitor than you planned, at the same or better price.

The fact that you hold on to a monitor for 10 years (and like it) means you get more out of making a slower, but better decision than just buying a decent/good monitor immediately.

IPS is really nice. I went from TN to IPS, never personally owned any other panel type, can't go back.

Dunno if this entirely the appropriate place to say it but I'm looking to move away from my Eyefinity set up. I've got 3x Dell s2415h. Very, very thin bezels, which is why I bought it in the first place for my triple monitor set up. I'm looking to sell 2 of them and the triple monitor arm. I'd sell you 2 of em for $200 + shipping. We can take this to PM too if you're interested. I'm moving away from Eyefinity because it costs too much in video cards to push all those pixels at 60hz

1080p, Glossy IPS with great colors. Low glow for an IPS monitor. So its still got more than VA but its a modern monitor with good QA so there is no BLB or dead pixels on any of them, just modest amounts of normal IPS glow. If you play with low level lights on you cant notice it. Glossy so there is glare if you are next to a bright light source. But the glossiness makes the colors really pop. So its a trade off there.

I appreciate the generous offer but I'm going to look at repoman0's screen later this week.

Yeah I love the FS/T on this forum, great stuff and good prices. Never gotten stiffed here either, and I've got stiffed on eBay even with their supposed protection.
