Looking for recommendations on a good budgeting / expense-tracking app. Requirements:

- easy to use
- sync across an iPad and iPhone. Mac syncing would be a plus, but not necessary.

I used Moneywell a couple of years ago sometimes had issues with their Dropbox syncing. Not sure if it's improved since.

Been using https://www.mint.com for years for this.

Well much more on the expense tracking side of it. I know it can do some budgetting too, but I just don't have the discipline to budget each expense category. I think the biggest advantage is how it pulls in absolutely all of my bank and credit accounts and aggregates the data.

Do either of these require you to sign up for anything? My problem with Mint is that it wanted so much information. There is no reason for that.

For Moneywiz, you can sign up for a free account that syncs the information across the different platforms. You do not plug in your bank login or password as you have to enter the information manually via your Mac or iOS devices.

There are lots of tools like mint, replicon, expensify. But ideally the one which works in latest technology works pretty well with the segment. I personally use Replicon for managing my budgets and keeping track of it.

I don't even want to sign up for anything. I want a simple app that allows me to put in how much I deposit, and subtract how much I spend. If they want to save that in a database somewhere and provide some kind of chart, fine, but it had better be anonymized.

3 months later and I still haven't settled on one! I tried Wally for a month, was nice but it's iPhone only.

Currently trying Moneywell (again) and HomeBudget w/ sync.

I use Google Docs - a simple spreadsheet. Daily receipts go into a tracking worksheet that automatically updates the running total. Depending on how complex your finances are, this can be a super-easy way to answer the questions of "how much do I have available?" and "what bills are due?"

Plus it auto-syncs across devices thanks to Google Drive.

I'm a huge fan of budgeting app YNAB

http://www.youneedabudget.com

The iPhone/iPad app is free, and syncs across cloud, and is as much an approach to money as a tech solution, but the tech solution itself is robustly designed. I also prefer not to do the Mint/online web service approach to my money.

I sync YNAB across devices with Dropbox

The YNAB mac app isn't that cheap, but it is worth it, and is sometimes discounted.

For work deductible expenses, I use Expensify
