Good Master Bathroom Tile Design???

We came up with this sketch for the tile design.

White / bamboo-ish porcelain tile on the floors. bathtub deck, and walls. Glass green tiles off set right to left on the three big surfaces.

Glass tile is here, porcelain on the right

Better porcelain pic

Should be similar to this floor

The left side of the bathroom will have a built in shelf for soap / shampoo made out of the leftover green glass tile, or this subway tile (we'd use a different color obviously)

Thoughts on the design? It's modern, and the off set green stripe might be a little too out there, but I don't know how else to incorporate it. I don't want 1 long line, that would be dumb. I don't like a horizontal strip across the 3 shower walls either really. It just breaks up the vertical flow too much.

Note - The green tile is very expensive (and freaking amazing to see in person), so I don't want to use too much...our design is about 12 sq ft, which is already pushing the budget pretty good.

I wouldn't go nuts with it, because it is a standard small bathroom.

Go with basic floor tiles for the floor (popular tiles are cheap for a reason, because it works and they can sell it volume), and not overly done with walls/backing (no tacky/busy design).

Errr, what? Not following you at all.

That design is extremely basic, save for an off-set stripe. Maybe the sketch is unclear, but it's the same design throughout the entire bathroom floor and shower walls. Just moving the green over a bit at the tub and shower walls.

Are you planning on living in this house for 15-20 years? If not, I would advise against this design. Don't try to over-personalize a house unless you're going to make it your permanent home.

Just know that trendy/"modern" stuff doesn't really date itself well and 5 or 10 years down the road trying to rip that out is going to be a massive pain in the ass. It takes a very specific buyer to appreciate that. Most others are going to hate it.

I don't know what you guys are smoking, that design is pretty simple and not very adventurous.

I'd love to see examples of your bathrooms, or bathrooms you think are easy on the eyes. We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback from people, but it's impossible to please everyone.

It's not complicated...it's just...not "normal". You are using a unique colored glass (blue and green) and in the floor no less. And the tile you are choosing is not something that is very common. With the colors you really lock in what you can do paint & bath accessory wise. It's just something to consider if you aren't going to be there very long.

It just seems like a style you'd see on HGTV that looks cool today, and forgotten tomorrow.

The glass tile really looks stunning. A friend in the fashion / designer industry even said someone will buy the house because of the tile. We're not worried about that too much, just the overall style. We just aren't totally sold on the way we're using the glass tile, and maybe a different layout would be good.

We can't think of much else, so we're asking around. A horizontal stripe across all three walls of the shower was recommended, but that harsh vertical to horizontal clash doesn't feel right.

I like it on the wall. Extending it to the tub wall and floor makes it look like some cheesy racing stripe on a car to me.

But it's your house. If you like it, go for it. Do what you want. As others have pointed out, you may want to keep resale in mind, especially if you won't be there long.

don't customize a tiny bathroom like you have with high end treatments. It simply will look out of place.

Any ideas how to have it on the floor and wall?

How do you know? You're the only one who posted any pics.

The first bathroom looks nice, but the small tile has a lot of grout that isn't practical for a shower tub combo. The flooring is kind of boring and I like dark around a white tub, but black is too sharp a contrast.

The second is a totally different style, but I like it. The wainscoting is a bit too shabby chic for a master bath for me. I think it benefits from a well lit room. I also think this is a good guest bathroom, not a master so much.

The third looks like a hotel, which I just saw it is. That's a bad style for a home.

The fourth is just a tub in an empty room. Too abstract to be applicable from what I can tell.

None of them are bad, but only two of them are even realistic.

All of them are realistic depending on residence.

Sounds like you picked up some bathroom magazine though and are shooting for the moon.

Any pics of the actual bathroom?
