what is an all around good motherboard?

For the athlon xp, either the shuttle ak35gtr or abit kr7a. For the pentium 4, the asus p4t-e or abit th7-II (rambus memory), or for pc2700 ddram, the asus p4b266-c or the new via p4xb-sa with ata 133 and usb 2.0 support. If you don't have much to spend, newegg has a refurbished epox 8KHA+ ($69) or ak31a ($59).

Personally, I'm going to have to disagree. I've heard of many problems people have had with that one. A person I know has that board, and it's been quite unstable for him.

I'd say that for the KT266A Athlon/XP/Duron platform, EPoX 8KHA+ and Abit KR7A are the best.

Oh, the little things: Asus A7V266-E only has 5 PCI slots. Both the EPoX and Abit have 6. It's not too big of a deal, but still, 6 PCI slots make a board look like a much higher-quality product, IMHO. Same with the 4 dimm slots that the Abit has.

Perhaps you can buy a new KT333 mobo, the first from BIOSTAR looks very inexpensive, there's a Gigabyte too (7VRXP) with USB 2.0 and all.

If you want to overclock, the Iwill XP-333 will give you the best options and stability.

i would be useing it for programing and gameing, i would like it to be a low budget but high performance, and i am useing an AMD

the new Soltek and the new Shuttle with the volts increases in AGP and CPU . Soltek has the Agp jumpers and the Shuttle jumpers for reaching 2.2 and Up Volts. Just get one board with this two mod in , I will get it for sure.

The Iwill XP333 is an awesome board. It comes with 6.1 surround sound and the Softmenu II BIOS for some pretty Xtreme overclocking. I am running a 1.33 AYHJA Tbird in mine at 156FSBx10 multiplier for a net clock speed of 1560MHz with Crucial PC2100. With PC2700, this board has been reported to reach 190FSBx2. I am absolutely thrilled with mine.

just my .02, but if you don't feel that you need DDR, the Iwill KK266 in any of its variations is a super mobo.

without a doubt one of the most overall pleasing board I have ever used. great overclocker,stable,good onboard sound, ISA slot for us oldtimers with old cards...etc: etc:

I really think it's a great board even today.
