Take the time to just BE THERE. There are more than a few things I'd like a "re-do" on during my own mother's illness.
Just be with her.
Just be with her.
No flowers allowed in the Cardiac ICU. My brother is a coffee snob and he makes sure we (family) all get plenty off good coffee. He also supplies the staff. they won't let mom have coffee in any of her feeding tubes.
Doing something - your messages and good wishes are awesome - you guys are great, thank you!. Mom got to read some of the replies to her original post , before they pumped her full of meds, pain killers, etc, before surgery. She smiled. Hasn't smiled since, but she's being monitored for all sorts of things.
She's breathing, her heart is way stronger than the docs expected. blood sugar is okay, BP isn't good, but she's full of keppra (minor seizures) and steroids. Lots of brain activity. I wish I could take a picture of her with all of her wires, tubes, monitors, devices and everything. But I'd better not.
Anyway, today's excitement- the man in the bed next to her died this afternoon. They gave him some medicine, and he started flipping out and making noise.
Now, people often die in the ICU, but usually quietly, and in the middle of the night.
It was creepy. Mom has a lawyer, who has her medical power of attorney, and all that stuff. He's here all the time, keeping an eye on her. The guy who died got the wrong medication, and it killed him. I'm so glad mom's lawyer is here. He's a legal partner of the guy she used to date, so he knows her really well, and he's a great guy.
Anyway, when this guy died, mom's numbers were affected. Even though she's not awake and aware, but you could see it in her heart monitoring, and in her brain waves.
It sure affected me, but I was right there when the whole thing happened.
Soon as I get all my messages sent and get off the laptop I'm just going to sit here and hold mom's hand. If I can find her hand through all the wires and stuff. I need my mommy - and if she needs me, I'm here.
More surgery needed. Still bleeding. They're going to operate again on her brain Thursday.
They've tried all sorts of different meds & things to stop the bleeding, but not successfully.
