Let me know when they get back to MSRP. Normally at this time we should be seeing 580s going for close to $250 with some occasional deals dropping below that. The market is still nowhere close to normal at this point. It's funny to think that the best bet for getting a GPU at a reasonable price is going to be NVidia FE cards when Volta launches. Let that sink in for a few moments to consider how much things have been turned on their heads.
Unless, of course, this is the new normal. I don't think Cryptocurrency is going anywhere soon, I would imagine that we have at least several more years of this before people start to give up on it, and there is the possibility that instead of giving up on it the market will stabilize. This might mean that the next generation of GPUs will come out with price points to match the current market, and not the old market. That could mean mid-range cards starting at $600 or so. Remember Nvidia and AMD is mostly not cashing in on this because they have volume contracts with the AIBs. When the next gen comes out they will have a chance to correct that and earn that premium themselves.
Personally, I think that if you want to buy a good GPU in the next few years your best bet is to buy stock in Nvidia now and use the crazy gains you are going to get in the next year to buy a GPU.
