Let me know when they get back to MSRP. Normally at this time we should be seeing 580s going for close to $250 with some occasional deals dropping below that. The market is still nowhere close to normal at this point. It's funny to think that the best bet for getting a GPU at a reasonable price is going to be NVidia FE cards when Volta launches. Let that sink in for a few moments to consider how much things have been turned on their heads.

Unless, of course, this is the new normal. I don't think Cryptocurrency is going anywhere soon, I would imagine that we have at least several more years of this before people start to give up on it, and there is the possibility that instead of giving up on it the market will stabilize. This might mean that the next generation of GPUs will come out with price points to match the current market, and not the old market. That could mean mid-range cards starting at $600 or so. Remember Nvidia and AMD is mostly not cashing in on this because they have volume contracts with the AIBs. When the next gen comes out they will have a chance to correct that and earn that premium themselves.

Personally, I think that if you want to buy a good GPU in the next few years your best bet is to buy stock in Nvidia now and use the crazy gains you are going to get in the next year to buy a GPU.

People are already doing that irrespective of what the DOW does. Also, you might want to look at a slightly longer history for the DOW. It's still up over the last quarter, and still way up over the last year. The drop seems like a healthy correction to me.
So is BTC. Up since last quarter (technically same price as ~11/24, which was the peak at that point) and way up since last year (~800%).

Agreed, but the market didn’t get completely out of whack over night either. It will take time to correct. We’re on the right path with $400 RX580s staying in stock for days considering they were selling out in hours at $500 not long ago. Still overpriced, but moving in the right direction.

AMD and Nvidia should include a usage statistics recording method, like SMART for HDDs does.

This way, a buyer could see how many hours a gpu has worked and at what load. This statistic should be mandatory in ebay listings etc.

Then I'd like to see shops trying to resell restocked tortured by mining video cards. And not only shops, end users too. You bought video cards for mining my friend? Good for you! Now keep them and put them on the shelf. The next poor guy that has little money, is owing you nothing to buy your used mining cards only for them to break down a few months later.

Also this way, they could create market segmentation and sell mining and non mining editions at different price levels. Let's see someone trying to claim warranty with many thousand hours of max gpu load on a "non mining edition" video card.

Could be useful to record average/top temperature too. If they were mining and kept cool it's probably less of an issue.

I just wish it was easier to get the fans to go to 100% in Linux... can't seem to find a way to do it. One of my cards is running hot yet the fans are only at 50%!

Newegg.ca listing RX 570's as high as $600 and RX 580's as high as $600-775 now. This is a headscratcher.

Yeah Newegg seems to have joined the price gouging game. Oddly enough Ebay has some listings for cheaper. But still by the time you factor in shipping etc you're looking at over $800.

All this price gouging is way out of hand and needs to get fixed asap. I cant even upgrade to even a mid range card now with out paying an extra $400-$600 bucks.Awww total bull crap!! Just got my taxes back and was gonna grab either a Rx64 or a GTX1080ti finally till i just visited Newegg. Guess its not gonna happen now unless someplace like Walmart or Bestbuy has them for cheaper. Even considered buying the next tier down like the RX56 or GTX1070ti but same issue with pricing.

Well this is teriffic news, it was painful trying to find cards this (and last) year for a couple upgrades that needed to happen. What are the odds I can get a 290X for $100 - $150 anytime soon? That would just be the tits.

Sometimes you can find deals in the FS/FT forums here.

I have been eyeing up the ThreadRipper 1950x as well and think i may just buy that instead since they are on sale right now. Been really really wanting one all year. I just cant justify spending more then $1000.00 on a GPU. Newegg had the MSI GTX1080ti And EVGA GTX1080ti in stock last night and i could have swore they were only $999.99 but they are sold out again and showing a price of $1399.99. Right now, Im thinking im gonna give it a day or two to see if anything comes back in stock or some magical sale pops up. Otherwise its gonna be a shiny new ThreadRipper build for me.

I can confirm that, both of the cards I used in my recent builds (among many other great parts for great prices) were bought here on the FS forum.

I should have bought all three Vega 64 LE cards for $740/ea. when I had the chance, instead of just the one, but what can you do? Right now forget it, they start at $900 and people are still swarming over them.
