Good office chair brands?

My wife will be working from home and I'm thinking our $100 office depot chair will wreck her back 8+ hours a day. Suggestions?

My budget would be $400 max, based on finding a herman miller for around that price.

Brands I've heard are good:
Herman miller
Steelcase

I like this chair from Office Master.

I tend to get up a lot, though, to walk around. Usually a couple times an hour and at least once every hour (my Microsoft Band 2 reminds me if I don't). The best thing for your back is to have something that is supportive and to not be sitting for too long at a time. I'm more likely to sink and slouch into a chair with armrests and a large back, so I much prefer the stool-type chairs for working.

I worked for 5 months without a day off and fucked my back up doing it. Sit stand for me from now on.

im sitting in a aeron chair right now. I sit in one 5 days a week. I like that chair better.

Honestly its probably comes down to body type. For me that chair is awesome. I like the padded seat better then the net seat aeron does. I also like the lumbar support better because it doesn't actually press into your back but supports it.

Im 6' and 200lbs.

I have an aeron chair at work. I hate it with a burning passion and it makes my legs fall asleep. I have a Steelcase task chair at home and love it.

Look at used office furniture stores if you them in your fair city. I picked up the Steelcase in like-new condition for $75. It retails for $500.

also the reviews on that chair are pretty good. 19 1 star to 319 5 star? yeah. Lifetime warrenty on the thing. The back netting was pulling out and they sent me a new back.

I sat in both the Aeron and steelcase leap before buying the Leap. Easy choice. I've had the Leap for about 3 years and absolutely love it. Has held up very well. Looks brand new.

Hmm, reading about corners tearing (which is worrisome, but my god is the price tempting). How easy was the rma process? I've had bad luck with furniture warranties always getting into wear and tear vs. defect arguments

I know you already got a chair but we had these at one of the studios I worked at and I never saw it happen. It only happened with my one back and I called them and they sent me a new back from the phone call. No need to send anything in.

Those both going to be above your price range, but might be worth it for the lack of pain. I had shoulder pain most of my working life, until I got an Aeron chair. Worth every penny.

I've used both the Aeron chair ($939) and Steelcase Leap ($919)
Aeron: http://www.amazon.com/Aeron-Task-Ch...?ie=UTF8&qid=1458183231&sr=8-1&keywords=aeron
Steelcase: http://www.amazon.com/Steelcase-Lea...qid=1458183265&sr=8-1&keywords=steelcase+leap

The Steelcase is more adjustable, but I personally preferred the Aeron. I've heard praise about both, but a bit more for the Steelcase. I'm a light guy - I think I heavier set person may enjoy the Steelcase over the Aeron.

Just curious. Are you a lighter or heavier person? I used both chairs for about a week. I loved the Aeron and hated the Steelcase, but I can see how the Steelcase could have been better if I was heavier. My theory is that lighter people would prefer the Aeron and heavier people would prefer the Steelcase.

the aerons cut into my thighs like crazy. can't sit in one for more than an hour or so.

One detail about the Aerons is that they come in multiple sizes. You have to get the one that fits you. Mediums seem to fit most people (I accidentally got stuck with a small one for a bit and didn't like it). The Steelcase is adjustable, you can make the chair base longer or shorter depending on your size.

Steelcase Leap V2 is my favorite. Level of adjustability is great. I prefer it over the Aerons we have at work.
