Good office pranks?

Last week, one of my coworkers got an optical mouse (MX700) for one of his desktops here @ work. The company pays for it, and we're all supposed to be getting them sooner or later, but it may be a while longer since they didn't order enough. Instead of waiting for all of them to come in and giving them out all at once, they let him have one. We're a relatively tightly knit group, so we can have fun at each others' expense without there being bad blood. This is great, because now we can play pranks on him. :evil:

Using the mouse as a focal point, I took 2 pieces of scotch tape (the cloudy kind) and put them over the sensor. The MX sensor is good, but it ain't that good! It skips erratically across the screen now.

I'll take one or both of the batteries out next time.

Other good ones: compressed air down the back of someone's shirt (especially effective while they're on a personal call. ) Salt in the sugar cannister near the coffee maker is nice. Locking display properties in the registry after setting a bizzare background (most of us can fix this, but not everyone can ).

Anyone have any other good office pranks?

Rename thier drives.
Swap program shortcuts. (ie: the Word shortcut now opens excel)
Crush up some sweet tarts and put them in with the coffee grounds for a pot.

unplug one end of their phone cord, not all the way, just enough so it pops out when they pick up their phone. Repeat with opposite ends daily.

If they are hunt & peck type keyboard users re-arange their keyboard to the ABCDEF.... format insteat of qwerty -- Done that a few times here.. You can tape the handset to the receiver, or glue if you are more daring. I'll be back with more as I think of them.

If you have Glare guards on your monitor, tape a piece of black paper on the inside of the glare guard. I had a guy going all day with this. They had IS up here and everything to fix his monitor. Haha.

Change the keyboard layout in the control panel to Dvorak.

Unscrew the mouthpiece to their phone, and put a few pieces of tape on the inside of the mouthpiece, blocking all inlets. After they get used to yelling into their mouthpieces, take the tape out, and put the tape on their earpiece.

switch keyboard layout to Dvorak Lefty.

Set the CMOS Clear jumper while the computer is off, and leave it there.

If they have two hard drives on one IDE chain, set both to Master.

Pull out their RAM sticks, put saran wrap around the contacts (trim it so its just enough to cover the contacts, and a little more), and reinsert RAM. RAM will not be detected, but it's obviously in there.
N.B.: Make sure ALL the contacts are covered - I don't want to know what happens when the RAM is "half working" :Q

unplug their network jack from the master switch.

do the saran wrap thing with their network cable, or use some packing tape and do it with their electrical plugs.

Someone a while back posted about how to set the default font in Word. Wingdings would be good.
The best part is that because it's so easy to simply change the font each time they create a new document, they probably wont' bother to figure out how to change the default font back. So it will be a long term minor irritation instead of a one time prank that is over as soon as they fix the problem.

Haha, a few of these are pretty good, but something that's not practical. I work at a govt site, so the hosts file is a no-no.

If you want to lock the display panel, create a dword in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System called NoDispCpl. Set its value to 1. Unfortunately we can't do registry hacks on our unclassified machines since we don't have sufficient rights.

The anti-glare screen trick was hilarious. My co-worker is back now and I have a feeling he'll be using his mouse soon. :evil:

capture an image of the desktop using print screen. Set the picture to the new background, then move all the icons, task bar, etc. off the desktop.

He'll be clicking on pictures of what he thinks are icons all day. "something must be wrong with the mouse buttons"

 

Put rusty nails in the end of a bat and chase them around with it.

really only works when you get new phone books

either take the new phone books or old ones and stack all of them to the ceiling or cubicle top so that it blocks the entrance to their office/cubicle
