is it good or bad to take Protein Shakes before you sleep?
like 10 mins before...

i mean good as in will it help your muscle building? or will it make u fat?

Casein is a good, slow-digesting protein that you can have before bedtime.

I take it right after I work out. I believe thats when its best to take it. That being said, I usually work out late at night and come home and sleep. I do notice a difference if I don't take it.

You really need that much protein? What's your workout schedule like? Excess protein becomes nothing but sugars, fats, and nitrogen -> urea. You must have one hell of a caloric demand. I used to do the protein shake deal back in high school when I played football and got 4-5 hours of heavy workout in a day, but I can't even imagine what I'd do with all that protein now.

Well, back when my healthy friends thought I had a chance to be healthy and still hung out with me, they gave me all kinds of useful tips. One of which was "no food intake 3 hours before bed time".
I should think that would also apply to protein shakes as well. The only thing allowed was sugar-free jello and sugar-free popsicles.

Exactly, cottage cheese is high in casein. Basically, you want something that will digest over the time you're sleeping. I assume by protein shakes you mean whey protein? Whey is a fast absorbing protein, which is why it's usually taken post work out.

It's great for you to drink a shake before bed. Not eating for 6-8 hours is very catabolic. Whey protein with milk or casein are slow digesting which is good. It's better to consume a little something before bed, it will keep your metabolic rate up.
