Good overclock for 3700+ San Diego?

Hello guys, well recently, I just built my first computer. See thread below -

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=27&threadid=1689217

Now I have been wanting to venture into the world of overclocking. Last night I was experimenting, and I eventually used an 11 multiplier x 245HTT to give me 2700MHz. Then I used a 333MHz divider, so that my RAM satyed around stock speeds, as they aren't very good overclockers past 210MHz.

Anyways, I ran Prime95 Blend Toture Test overnight and when I woke up, it was still running fine. Should I run it longer than 10 hours?

And finally, my idle temps are 28C, and my load temps are ~32-33C. This is reported through ASUS Probe. Are these temperatures trustworthy?

Thanks.

those temps would be fantastic if accurate. whats your vcore?

2700 is a decent clock. mine used to do 250x11 with 1.525v. my load was up ~48 though. that was before my xp-90 though but still those temps are nice.

Blend tests do nothing for cpu tests/stability. Use Large FFT testing.

My Vcore is 1.45.

Thor, I will run Large FTT testing tonight and report back.

Thanks.

Large FFT is for mem.

Run small FFT for cpu. Set priority to 10. This will stress the crap outta your cpu.

Umm I BEG to differ. Large FFT (middle option in prime95) uses very little memory. Large FFT stresses the CPU better than does Small FFT. My A64 in OCing my Semp64 would will pass Small FFT but not Large FFT. The memory is fine and running well below its maximum. Large FFT does use some(FFT sizes eventually drop enough to where they will fit into the L2cache mem which is good because the Memory controller is on the CPU. I use large FFT becuase it stresses the CPU better.

K, just ran Large FTT Testing for 2 hours, no errors. My peak temperature was 34C.

Run it for over 24+ hours and surf/play games while it's running, then come back to us.

dude that kinda makes me mad. I had my chip, which is the same as yours, at 280x10 or 255x11, and my memory at a divider and I was failing prime95. Then I dropped it to 246x11 and I still failed. Wasn't stable till 237x11 and that was all with my vcore at [edit:] 1.60!!!
I turned it down to 1.55 after I got 237x11 to pass five minutes of p95.

I'm actually still not stable.
got a p95 rounding error after 6 hours of running last night. grr. I think it may just be this pos asus motherboard I have. I'm going DFI in a month or so.

agreed, lets see what this thing can do! 1.55v! there is no way you are getting those temps with an xp90, what is the temp in your house? 5c? must be wrong. what does it idle at?

Sorry Waylay00, didn't know you were so possessive of your thread! Thought maybe since we both had San Diegos anything someone said about yours or said about mine would benefit us both...but I guess you wanted people to only answer YOUR questions since it was YOUR thread. I make sure to steer clear of your threads in the future...

Well considering the fact that both CPU's ARE different, and not every CPU has the same overclocking potential, your replies are going to have different information than replies pertaining to my CPU.

Just because they are both San Diegos doesn't mean they will both be capable of 500MHz overclocks. A CPU is like a human being: no two are alike. Therefore, this thread is specific to MY CPU, which may be a better overclocker than your CPU, or vice versa.

Right now I am back at stock speeds, at 1.39v and I'm idling at 27C (sometimes it drops to 26C!). Then when I load up BF2, I get around 30-32C. With Prime95, it gets around 33-35C.

I was amazed at first too, considering what everyone else normally reports.

Maybe I have one of those rare, really good CPU's, but I just don't yet know it.

what is the temperature inside your house? what is your case fan setup? id dont know how this is possible. i idle at 29C with my xp90, and al load it goes up to like 41. how could it only be going up 5C from idle to load? try different monitoring software.

My temp stays about 70F inside the house. My case fan setup is as follows - one 120mm intake, one 120mm exhaust, 1 92mm intake on side.

I have also tried different monitoring software, such as Speed Fan. They are all the same.

Waylay, what's the highest clock speed you have gotten? I have a very similar setup and have gotten a stable max of 2750mhz.

Wow Waylay nice system I have a very similar setup but I could only get my proc to OC to 2.53 and that was not even stable I think ive tried every thing vcore 1.5 fsb 245, I even tried turning my mem clock down to 150 but could not get it to run stable. Im thinking of RMAing my cpu to AMD unless any one else has any ideas. BTW what is your memory timings mine are 3-3-3-8

O yeah ive replaced the mobo and memory twice used to have OCZ Proformance 2x1gb 3338 traded newegg form Corsair XMS 2x1GB (pretty leds) same timings

I'm running a 3700+ at 11X250, XP90 CPU cooler, Antec case with good case ventilation.

CPU idle is 28/29C and CPU-loaded (Prime95) is 41C. I'm using MBM5, so temps are not guaranteed accurate, but temps reported by MBM5 agree very closely with BIOS temp report.

I really doubt that your true CPU-loaded temps are 32/33C. I suspect that your temp-monitoring program is reading the wrong system sensor.

Hope this helps!

What vcore are you running at to get your pc to overclock stable at 250x11. I cannot get mine to OC stable at 250x11 with a vcore of 1.5, but i can get it to run stable at 237x11 with a vcore of 1.75. I just wanted to go a little higher =)
