I already have Civ4, Company of Heroes, the Warhammer series, Age of Empires 3, etc.

Any other strategy games out there you guys like that I'm missing? Turn based or rts, I like em all.

(Older graphics, excellent gameplay)
Jagged Alliance 2 and the Urban Chaos total conversion mod
Heroes of Might & Magic 2 - 3 (not 4 or 5)
X-Com (needs DOSBox)

(Newer graphics, not quite as good gameplay)
Fallout Tactics
Silent Storm (if you can live with Starforce copy protection)

Yep, have the whole Warhammer series. Of course I've played Starcraft. I'd still play it today if they modernized it, like micromangement, and up the resolution...800x600, I don't think I can deal with that anymore. Same deal with Homm2&3, at least resolution wise. Why in the hell don't they come out with Starcraft 2 already, or World of Starcraft, something.

I've heard of JA2, I might have to order a copy somewhere, it's never available locally. I have X-com on my hard drive as well. Probably the best turn based game I've ever played.

I played Red alert back in the 90's when it came out. Great game. I must admit I abandoned Westwood since Diablo and Starcraft came out. Dune2 was an absolute classic back in the day though. Do you know if Generals 0 hour and the other sequels are just as good?

Not much of a fan Generals and Zero Hour here. I've been a huge fan of C&C since the C&C1 demo back in my 486 days. C&C, RA, Tiberian Sun, RA2, plus expansions, were all awesome. I played a lot of RA2 online (was in the top 75 players at one point on WW Online), but I like all of them almost equally.

So I just installed The 1st Decade on my laptop, and though it would never run Generals anyway, I don't want it anyway. Classic ones are awesome though. Not sure on Renegades... played the beta or demo long ago and it was decent, but that's not a strategy anyway.

Outside of the ones you already have, I'd have to say try out Act of War. There's probably a demo for it or its expansion. One of the best modern RTS games IMO... well for a contemporary setting anyway. It didn't receive much mention, but got good reviews, and definitely worth a try if you're a RTS fan.

Warcraft 3 is decent, i put in a lot of hours playing that on bnet
and another vote for the total war games, though i haven't played them mplayer.

If you can handle lower res. AT ALL....PLEASE try Myth 1 and 2. They are superb, plot and strategically.

Homeworld was fun as well.

Rise of Nations. It is the most fun RTS I've ever played... and I play(ed) a lot of them. Also Medieval 2: Total War and Rome: Total War are both worth checking out (although they are almost identical games, so pick the timeframe that appeals to you more).

Seconded... best series around for strategy (combines turn based & RTS epic scale battles).

I was a big fan of the C&C games several years ago, but haven't played any RTS since RA2 (aside from occasional RA1 skirmishes with a mod I made). I'm waiting on Supreme Commander and C&C3 at this point.

How about Age of Wonders 2: Shadow Magic. It has a quality RMG and many user made maps available. I think a demo is available as well.

+1. RoN is the most balanced and well thought out RTS I've ever played. I haven't tried the sequel, Rise of Legends, but I hear it is as good.

Also, don't forget Total Annihilation, an excellent classic, and its soon-to-be-released sequel, Supreme Commander.

Murban - do you (or does anyone else for that matter) know if homeworld is still played online at all? I'd reinstall if it is.

Another vote for Rise of Nations, the series, great game!!!
Homeworld, expansion, and part 2, great stories!

Also, these are pretty old school, but Earth 2150 is good, it had a part 2 game but I never played it. I'm not sure the title of this next one but it dealt with MARS, you were either human or alien and it was a pretty fun rts. I think it was called MARS, i forget, like i said, pretty old school 97' i think, all I know is it came with my compaq computer back in the day when it cost $3,000

edit: Also Age of Mythology! how can i forget this game. Another good game with a story involved

Sorry, don't know.

Rise of Nations is definitely a great game. The demo gives you a great feel for the game.

Rise of Legends is Sic. Aside from the graphics improvement (drastically so), you can no longer build cities. You have to capture preset positions (of which there are many in most cases). But the units are a bit more realisitc (i.e. large units can trample/flatten infantry quite effectivly, and guards patrol the walls of your city, when your cityt is attacked, you will literally see them run from one end of the city to the other). You also get to build "districts" around your city to increase various aspects of the game and said city. There are also 3 insanely different (albeit balanced) races. Basically like starcraft. Vinci = terran, Alin = Zerg, Cuotl = Protoss

There are a lot more gamplay differences too. Personally I think it's a better overall experience, but if you want more control over the game, RON is the way to go.

Also, try Space Empires V . Best, most complex (as in 6000 net technology levels to research, customized ship design down to which armor plate goes where, etc). But it has a pretty steep learning curve. Prepare to spend some time on it.
