Good proxy program?

I'm in China for the summer and I'd like to be able to visit blocked sites like youtube. I'm currently trying to use Proxy Switcher, but it's not working too well (can get to metacafe, but youtube is still blocked). Are there any good free programs?

i've used them in europe in the past with good results, although I tell you GOOD LUCK getting sites to accept your american credit card when your IP is in china

Agreed - they lock their own people up for going to sites that are not even blocked.

If they find that you are breaking their laws (which you are by attempting to circumvent their filters); the US Embassy may not have enough pull or desire to get you back by the fall session.

And given that country, if they even detect that you are using a proxie; that would be enough for them to grab you. You DO NOT have the luxury of being innocent and have US rights apply to you over there.

I've had good luck using privoxy tunneled through hamachi. But then, I haven't used it in China...nor would I try it. Seriously, you caught = doing synchronized choreography with a thousand inmates.

FYI, encrypted VPN connections are undetectable so if you are in china I would once again suggest that route.

I would suggest using common sense and not even think about breaking the laws of an inmensely powerful communist government, being a freakin' tourist of all things.

Unless the thought of being imprisoned, with no guarantee of any human rights being respected,
while digging up holes for 50 years somewhere in a Chinese field while wearing a hat made from your own scrotum sounds pleasing.

Agreed. Bypassing the laws there is not at all a prudent option.

That's like running a hose across someone's lawn to "borrow" their water. When an .cn IP is connecting to another gateway with GRE it's going to stick out like a sore thumb.
