Hey guys,
I am finally going to be taking the expensive plunge into buying my own Poker Chips. I know there are a lot of chips on Ebay, most of which are metal covered in ABS. I guess the ABS part isn't that bad, I believe casino's now use Composite materials but casino's usually have two different colors. Not painted on colors but like they mixed two different types of Clay / ABS. That's the stuff I am looking for. Two, three, whatever colors not painted on. Does anybody know where you can get these chips from. Hopefully you have purchased chips from them before so you are not going on what they show on the website. As far as a price, I have no idea what they are going for. I know the good stuff on Ebay is around $100 for 13.5g 100% real clay. Hopefully you guys have some input. Thanks!

If you have a Costco membership, they have the 500 piece, 11.5g plastic set with 5 dice, 2 decks of cards, and a nice carrying case for $59.99.

Funny but I just won this about 30 minutes ago on ebay.

My friends all have this set and I've used them before. They are very solid.

they cost a whole lot

i think a guy at work pay more than $1 per chip for his set

but they are extremely nice to play with

edit on second thought maybe a little less

i think $450-500 for 600 chips and a very nice case (not like the ebay ones)

Sams has something similar as well, but I haven't actually looked closely at it

Clay chips are extremely nice to play with, much better than any plastic or metal set I've seen. If you play alot, its worth the investment. I'm sure you could nab a used set of eBay for about $100 with case.

[EDIT] Or, apparently $36. Nice find. Now I want one.

I appreciate the input guys but that metal filled, clay injected stuff just isn't what I am looking for. I am still looking for somebody with experience with that two (or maybe three) tone stuff. There are many websites but I can't tell one from another. Anybody have any knowleged on those higher quality chips?

not a flame, just a question. why do people spend so much on poker chips? Now I agree those plastic chips from Target for $1.99 for a package of 50 sucks. But I got a holder that holds 2 decks of cards and like 480 chips for probably $30. They feel fine to me. I guess I only play once, sometimes twice a month though.

Even casinos don't have 13.5 gram clay chips. Most casinos have between 8 and 11.5 grams for their chips because thats how much real clays weigh. Those chips you have linked in the auction are composites, if that. I'm sure they are weighted to make them weigh 13.5 grams. Thats not to say that these 13.5 gram composites aren't better than cheap abs 11.5 grams chips. There are good cheap chips out there.

This place sells real clay chips, and they are not cheap either.

Edit: I should have said that many cheap chips are injection molded. You cannot injection mold clay. Some modern chips that casinos use are clay composite, but you are not going to get 500 casino clays or composites for that price [$89.99].

This place also sells modern-day clay-composite compression molded (not injection molded) chips. All injection molded chips are plastic, not clay.

I have not taken them down to the the Chemistry Building on campus to do a full by part composition analysis but there is no weighting in them. They come from a small factory in Texas that used to make chips for casinos. They don't have the fancy CASINO or what not lettering indented so they save you a lot of money.

I do appreciate the link on the chips, has anyone purchased chips from them? I just would like more information about 2/3 tone chips and not waste my time on kiddy know it alls.

No prob for the links...about the 2/3 tone chips. Cosmetically, thats up to you on how you want them to look. To me, the feel of the chips is more important than the looks. For home games, I personally prefer chips with no denomination on them. If you have played with these chips before, and you've cut them up and you like the feel of them, then why not get them?

http://www.mynameismatt.com/cg/ <---this has all you'd ever need to know about chips.

as far as stuff better than ebay, the pokerchips.com has nice chips, and 5stardeal.com sometimes has better deals than ebay (5stardeals does sell on ebay too.)
