ThermoEngine is too loud and does.t perform as well as the stock HSf which isn't that great. What about that new copper Taisol? Is that one any good? I will overclock in the future but not right away.
I had to purchase a HS for a client this past Friday, so I went over to the local 'puter parts place and found a Taisol with a copper base.
The cost was $9.00, was VERY quiet and it kept a stock 1.0 Ghz Athlon at 96f with a room temp of 74f.
Can't beat it for the price and noise level!
Either buy or build a 60-80mm adapter, you can have Delta-like cfms AND decent noise level.
I use the Pabst 8412 NGML (26cfm at 19dBA)on a PAL 6035, and even though it is not as powerful as those 60mm screamers, it is able to cool my AXIA1.33@1.5.
But if you are really into pushing some air, you could get up to 60cfm with a 80mm fan!
I've got one of those Zalman flower heatsinks. They're designed specifically to reduce computer noise. The stock 80mm fan has two settings, one of them totally silent. I don't like any fan noise so I run in silent mode most of the time. Temps are very cool in this mode even with my 1.2G AVIA under load. I switch to "normal" mode and startup a couple of extra case fans when I want to overclock for video encoding now and then.
I'd highly recommend Zalman, either the 3100 or 3100G, which are both solid copper. I have the latter which is gold plated. Not too sure about the aluminium ones, and I think I'd stick with copper.
i use a modded alpha pep66 with ystech 26cfm fan to cool my 1ghz axia @ 1.5ghz... idle temps are a little high at 48C and full load at 52C, but it's still tolerable for me.... waiting to get an aquastealth watercooling kit which should bring the temps down to the 30s
