any modern racing games that let you build up your car? like upgrade engine, tires, brakes, etc Yeah I know there need for speed most wanted and carbon, but I have those already. I'm looking for somethen a little bit more realistic.

Cross Racing Championship 2005 lets you unlock upgrades & cars as you complete races. I haven't played it much so I can't really say how good of a game it is yet. Worth trying though.

one word - rFactor.

The MODS for the game are what makes it the best as the the devs are not charging one cent to DL them and the MODS are sometimes better than than the actual game itself.

IMHO you cannot go wrong with rFactor for the price.

NFS Porsche was the last real sim racing game the EA made in the NFS series. After that they were all arcade. It was definitely the last and best racing game they had. Carbon was ****** though. I finished it within a week.

In Race Driver 3 you can do this. But they aren't any street cars really. Well I think there is a Honda class that has some normal Civics. I suppose licsencing them all would've cost a lot. It would be a direct Gran Turismo competitor if they had. So I wish they had regular street car races, but it is more based on actual race cars (GT, F1, go kart things, off-road, stuff like that), but excellent game otherwise. Got it for only $20 more than 6 months ago, but note it does have Starforce (hasn't caused me any problems, but its annoying to have to have the DVD in the drive to play).

What? No mention of the greatest racing sim around. GRAND PRIX LEGENDS (with all the mods, of course)

The GTR series rocks, except for Starforce...never gave me any problems though...

Another vote for GT Legends. Great game.

I really wanted to try GTR2 but I sold my laptop and my desktop PC would cry if I asked it to run it.

NFS: Porsche Unleashed was indeed the best on the NFS series, however, even that was lacking heavily. The tracks were very few (8 I believe) and were pretty linear.

I am waiting for a game somewhat like NFS: PU, but with modable tracks that the community can edit, create, etc not to mention the cars. NFS has done some great things with their sieres, but never in one single game, they had a good idea in so and so, then another good idea, but they never combined them for a truly great game (NFS: PU was closest they did to getting it right).

Is need for speed carbon worth checking out? I liked NFSMW, it was entertaining. If carbon is just more of the same I think I would like it.

Then it wouldn't be a "Rally" game, it would be a "Rally Cross" game.

nfs: pu is a great game. I just reinstalled it the other day.

Another racing game that was good back in the day, that not around anymore was Motorcity Online. I loved playing that game. It's to bad ea drop that game. It had a lot of potential. It be cool if some other gaming company came up with online racing game like motorcity online.

hey if anyone in here has played motorcity online. check out this website. motorwold online. This game is suppose tobe just like motorcity online but it going to be diffrent as well. From what I read on that website so far, they are going to be releasing the beta program sometime in the next few weeks or so.

Oh man... Motor World Online looks great. I played a bit of Motor City Online back in the day. I remember they extended the free play for a while since it was not in a good state (EA, hmm weird), but I guess they closed the doors pretty quickly (another big surprise from EA).

I'll be checking out Motor World Online over the next month or so. I definitely want to get in on the beta test.

Absolutely!!!!! That is a great Rally Game. Richard Burns is a close second.

Love it and still play it. In no other game, can you race for 20 min on one rally course. Its more of a survival than winning. Xpand rally is my new favorite too.

Ooh, another racing game I played yesterday for the first time in many, many years.

Need for Speed SE with Dosbox! So cool! That was the game that got me hooked on racers back in like '95.

I don't think Sports Car GT was mentioned - another pretty good older one. Also F1 2000.

Blame that on anyone who's bought a console game.
BTW, Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit was great too.

The same thing happened to Test Drive. Though test drive unlimited on xbox 360 looks good from the screenshots online. I hope the PC version looks as good.

You've got to try Flat Out 2, it's a total hoot It's kind of like Burnout for the PC, in that is emphasizes trashing your opponents. It's a 2006 game so the graphics are as nice as you can afford them to be and it works AWESOME with my cruddy little $15 logitech NASCAR racing wheel. Give it a shot, I think you'll enjoy the hell out of it!

$20 is worth it, hope you enjoy it much as I am

And btw, I have even bothered with the faster racing circuits or cars; I love the beaters.
