There are some e-tailers in the midwest that are pretty good. Also one or two in Florida, I think.
However, I will NEVER deal with a store based in NY ever again.
A couple years ago, I called a few that Cnet said had the best prices on digital cameras. They were rude, and turned out they were selling bogus versions of the camera I was interested in. (Needless to say I didn't order one from there.) It was shortly after that I saw a report on 20-20/Dateline/60 Minuntes (can't remember which it was) that investigated these NY-based electronics stores ripping people off.
Last year, however, I bought my Sharp LCD monitor from a NY computer store that seemed to have gotten decent ratings, and had the best price on the monitor. Boy, what a pain in the arse it was dealing with them! Their "online order system" was nothing more than CC'ing some clerk to be manually processed (which caused me to receive multiple e-mail replies with different order numbers for the same single order, even after already receiving it), and the monitor was received with a few bad pixels.
Now, let's face it, bad pixels are pretty much expected when you order an LCD online, but this particular model of Sharp LCD monitor has new technology that is supposed to make dead pixels virtually invisible by reversing the voltage, making dead pixels appear dark ("Zero-Voltage Black Technology") making them less noticeable due to the light around them essentially drowning them out, whereas on other LCD's dead pixels appear as bright white spots glaring back at you. Well, mine had bright white spots.
When I contacted Sharp, they said their management wanted to send me a brand new one directly from Sharp, and send mine to them instead of back to NY, because they wanted to see what I was sent by the NY computer store.
I never found out for sure, but I have a feeling they sold me a bogus LCD monitor. Sharp was very cool doing what they did for me, and the new monitor is perfect. All this made me think back again to my experience calling NY stores about cameras, and the TV news report on such stores found in NY.
