ok, i grew up in laguna hills and now live in LA. here is what i would go for:

The Caspian (persian food)-in Irvine on Culver near the 5. very good persian food, almost as good as my mom makes. marble floors, statuetes, and live music some nights. very classy, not too expensive either (looking under $15 a person).

Old Spaghetti Factory (italian food)-in Newport Beach on Newport Blvd on Balboa. fun atmosphere, great food, cheap (under $10 a person). wait the extra few minutes for dinner in the cable car--very neat.

i never dated when i was home, so i don't know good date places around there =) these two places stick out in my mind as a pleasant place to take a girl.

oh yeah, it's all about Alerto's! Breakfast Burrito and Deluxe nachos (not on the menu, you have to ask for it)!

Cheesecake Factory, Mae's (formerly John's) Coffee shop in GG, CPK...Fatburger

no offense, but i don't like PF changs at all - very overpriced mediocre chinese food!

come to eat at my house! great chinese food ! or go to cerritos/monterey park/alhambra....GREAT Chinese food!!!

anyway, my suggestion --

The White House in Anaheim. I'd call them up right now to get reservations. THey are very classy...excellent food too.

or....this is what i prefer...

The Riviera By The Fireside in Westminster.

SUPER GREAT PLACE. expensive, but service is excellent, and the steaks..............maaaaaaaaaan!!!

ok. this reminds me to book a place for me and g/f for vday

Alertos?? Where is that at? I think I frequent the same restaurant but different name called Albertos ( in pomona, on garey ave near arrow). And I second that the carne asada fries, 'Super Fries', is some dope stuff. But for my money the best carne asada burritos are had at Tacos Mexico. (know any locations in OC?)

BUT as far as a date goes, I would not go to any of these, especially not at first or second. Maybe like a 3rd date, just to show your laid back and show off your knowledge of off beat food joints...

Anyplace at the block or spectrum are safe bets, anything more check zagets website, but be sure to scope out the area before hand if its your first date...

I would love to hear any recommedations too, lets hear them!

I hate PF Chang's. They sanitize Chinese food for non-Chinese people who are afraid to go to "dirty" Chinese restaurants.

there's a taco's mexico on mcfadden/harbor

alerto's, alberta's, all that stuff has pretty much the same food ^_^

But seriously though

I don't know what kind of food you're looking for, so here's a bunch

Favori - First/Mcfadden in Santa Ana - Vietnamese/French cuisine, rated #1 in OC like 2-3 years in a row. Great food, not too expensive
Kim Su- First/Ward - Chinese food, House Special Lobster, best lobster ever. Period.
Morton's- Segrestorm/Bear? - Rumored to have excellent steak, albeit very expensive steak
Fabino's or something like that- Italian restaurant @MetroPointe, very nice food

Croton: You know what, you are the third person to recomend that place, but what do you mean by expensive? I thought I heard it was around $12-15 a plate or so...if this is the same place...(I thought it was a french restaurant..) Also about how much a plate is the White house???

>>The Riviera By The Fireside in Westminster.

That place is soooooo damn good! I went there for my bday dinner. It has great reviews from Zagat too. It's actually not that expensive..my dad wouldn't let me see the bill, but i am guess it's about under $40 for a quality steak.

I went to the white house a looooong time ago. for the 2 of us -- ran us about $100 including tip. we didn't drink wine tho -- too young at the time. but we had everything else!

haha you guys do know that the original "alertos" is really called "albertos"? one of the first alberto chains to ever show up was the one in riverside, off hole and tyler or osmething like that, near the best buy... theres also an albertos in corona...

i forget why they changed the names but yah.. carne asada with fries are freakin great, but i usually go for the ham breakfast burritos cuz it's only 2.80ish.. i dont always have 5 bucks for a carne asada w/ fries

---

as for restaraunt advice, how about the cheesecake factory? someone on ATOT recommended that to me a while back when i took my close friend girl out to dinner, but we only had cheesecake because she had already eaten and didnt know i was going to take her out (it was a suprise). but yah, they dont only serve cheesecake there (at least im pretty sure they dont )

Hmm not too familiar with restaurants in OC but you can try this:
Zagat Survey

One of the most reliable guides I've ever used. It's my bible.

If you want to drive up to Long Beach, there's this fantastic place downtown called L'Opera. Expensive as balls but sooooo romantic and the food is amazing too.
