I need advice on a decent sleeping bag. I don't want to spend more than $100 unless somebody thinks it's absolutely necessary.
I don't know anything about camping but I would like something that is durable (can be used for outdoors and indoors).
It has to be light and small yet large enough to fit my body length (5'9"). I prefer the bag to weigh under 4lb.

I was thinking of something like thisbag 1
or this bag
I never heard of this "slumber jack" brand but they seem to be a lot cheaper than the other major brands. Thanks for any help

if this is for car camping, those are fine.

if it is for hiking, you probably want to go with something lighter. also, bag temperaturing ratings are rated fairly high. a 50 degree bag is really only good for 60 degrees.

check out kelty lightyear series. those are cheap and light.

It really depends on what your going to be doing with the sleeping bag (sleeping obviously). Coming from an Eagle scout, if you want to camp in new england in the middle of february get at least a 0 degree mummy bag from an EMS type store (not ems cuz they're bloody expensive). If you want to just camp in april, get a 20 or 30 degree bag. DO NOT get anyhting above those because you will still freeze on those cold nights. LMK if you need anymore help.

Well I've only stuffed it without the add-on topper. It fits into the lower zippered pouch of my backpack. You really need a compression sack to do it right and it will stuff down pretty good - I'm not sure of the weight.

I wouldn't say it's small when stuffed...but it's not too big for me. Guess it depends on your definition of small.

I have something similar to this. Not quite the same but I can get the bag with a pillow and a few other small things into the bottom. I'd have to go check though. If you want, PM me and ask me and I will take a picture of my bag in it's compression sack for you.

Bag requirement depends on the conditions/temperature that you are going to camp in.

Heavy insulated mummy bag sucks because it is cramp and is too hot even for winter use.

Get a set of 2 middle of the road bags so you can double up (1 inside the other) if it too cold. Get 1 thermo bag with silver lining that is supper thin and a medium bag that have polyester/plastic liner instead of down (down get wet easily & take longer to dry).

The best investment is a lightweight portable camping bed because it keeps you off the floor/ground (comfortable, warmth, and it keep you dry?less sweating/condensation).

<--- Was a desperate college student that worked as a treeplanter and endured temperature as low as -19C (-2F) for 5 spring/summer.

If you're backpacking, you can't carry a cot. It just takes too much space that is needed for other more important things (food). I have never had a problem with my mummy bag, it's a little wider at the bottom so it's easy enough to move around in. It's definitely not too hot since you can take the topper off. Also if it's realy that warm you can leave the bag unzipped and use it more like a blanket than a sleeping bag.

As for the guy that linked those Marmots...those are way out of his price range.
