looking for a nice steakhouse to check out while in chicago. were staying in rosemont by O'Hare but going to be downtown as well so thats not out of the question. saw gibsons is near wear i'm at but that looks to be a bit rich for my blood. just looking for a nice steakhouse, nothing overly fancy because I'm not feeling getting all dressed up since we will prolly be hunting down a sports bar after dinner to catch the michigan game after dinner.

any recomentdations?

There is a Morton's out there which is pretty decent.

If downtown the Chicago Chop House comes to mind.

You're looking for a nice steakhouse but something that's not expensive and you don't want to look nice in?

Not sure I can really help you there.. I think there's a Morton's out in Rosemont area but you're not really going to be able to rock jeans and a tshirt?

Smith and Wollensky on the river around Dearborn

Edit:
Missed the "Don't want to look to nice" line. Probably want to skip that one then.

You can usually skate by on decent jeans and a polo most places these days though you don't want to go in looking like you just got done changing the oil in your car.

I ate at Chophouse about a year ago. It was a pretty laid back type place, my steak (which I thought was amazing) was around $45-50 range.

by not look nice I mean i'm not going to wear slacks and shit, I'll have what i wear every day on, a nice set of jeans, and a button up, I ain't no slob just don't want to go back to the hotel to change after a day on the town. and bynot too expensive 30-35 bucks for a steak is fine, 50+ for one is going to go out of my pricerange quickly.

Eh, but they're still a chain. Morton's isn't bad. There's Tramonto's up in Wheeling - went there and it was nice, but not as nice as I would've liked for the pice $$$$.

Dress will be fine if thats what you're doing... price though, you're looking at probably at least 40 for a steak at steakhouses. You could try Weber Grill or Wildfire (up in lincolnshire) if you have a car.

I think there is a Harry Carry's in Rosemont off Mannheim, connected to one of the hotels, but I don't know what the dress code is. Your best bet is to hope one of the sports bars have a good steak, cause most steakhouses in Chicago are going to be dressy and pricey. I have only been to all state arena once, but I could swear there are some places near it. Unfortunately I don't get out to Rosemont all that much, even though I work directly south of in Melrose.

lol kinda what I figured looking thru google at the dressy and pricey thing, but was hoping there were some local gems that weren't so high dollar. I'm just a small town guy I guess lol like a nice laid back atmosphere lol. any other non steak house recomendations around rosemont? (might need to apease the GF with something non steakish if I intend to watch fball lol) or sportsbars that would be good to watch some college football after dinner?

None!

might I suggest you ignore the typical places that EVERYONE will suggest in Chicago and get thee to Tango Sur? best value in the entire city when it comes to steaks. The stuff downtown is for tourists.

dude. like I said: Tango Sur. fantastic meat, VERY reasonable (Less than $30 for a filet-rare, medium rare, however you want it), casual, etc.

hell, it's in your neighborhood

It's Argentinian, to there's an actual atmosphere.

BYOB as well, which is always nice.

So? They still have excellent, dry-aged steaks.

It tends to get quite crowded Thurs-Saturday, and they take no reservations. It's a bit of a walk from the closest redline stop (assuming you're not used to "city walking"), so you might want to cab it.

should be fine around 7ish, though. It's a young neighborhood, so Dinner starts ~8-8:30 for most.

Do it, you'll be pleased. Bring your own wine, beer, whatever. They also have the little table grill thing with various meats. Forget what that's called...

I've been to Harry Carry's. Pretty good but kind of an older set. If I remember, there wasn't a dress code.

Cab or GTFO.

Seriously, don't even bother. I lived about 1.5 blocks from Southport (and Tango Sur) for about a year. It's fine during the day (excluding Cubs games), but a bastard during the weekend and evenings. That entire area of the city is doom for cars.

on second thought, you might be able to drive up, get your name on the list, and then by the time you've found a spot to park and hiked back to the restaurant (30-45 minutes later), your table might be ready.
