Why are you going to lap your cpu? It really doesn't help with overclocking A64's. Or did you mean lapping your heatsink? And believe it or not, I don't think anyone ever kept track of the steppings of A64 3000's. You could pretty much tell whether the A64's would be good overclockers by which revision they were. Well, that and the fact that there were way too many steppings of A64's to even try to keep track of them all.
I'm not lapping my CPU - I'm not quite that nuts Just the heatsink.
I've found a thread over at XtremeSystems with lists of steppings and how high people have gotten them, but I can't find any which are APNW - just one elsewhere on the forum and that guy doesn't give any definite results
Well, finish lapping your heatsink, then tell us how high your stepping will do. Of course, there's always been good overclocking chips that came from bad steppings, and bad overclockers from good steppings.
Lapping kit isn't here yet, but RAM is - so I've fitted the RAM and reseated the HSF with AS5 (got some Shin Etsu n the way with the lapping kit). A bad picture of the RAM:
I loaded into the BIOS, and changed these settings, leaving the rest on auto:
Code:
DRAM Frequency: 200mhz
Command per Clock: Disabled
CAS Latency Control: 3.0
DRAM Drive Strength: Level 10
DRAM Data Drive Strength: Level 3
Just waiting for my 80GB Samsung Spinpoint to come so that I can install Windows on it
