Good Summer Reading?

So far I've read all of the Harry Potter books over the summer, finished Angels and Demons, reading Deception Point (kinda boring). I need something entertaining to read any suggestions?

hmm I also read Ice Wind Dale, Dark Elf Trilogy, Legacy of the Drow, and some books in the Path to Darkness (2 books in the series is boring) maybe that will help you make a suggestion to me?

If you're into a really hearty reading with immersive character development and historical knowledge, check out Exodus by Leon Uris.

The ending totally broke my heart... So sad... 640 pages of pure goodness.

Looks interesting maybe. But it looks a bit too serious for me.

No, LOTR was a very poorly written series, more so when measured against modern standards. IMO, the LOTR movies are one of the few cases where the movies were better than the books.

I'm a big fan of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth saga, almost all of RA Salvatore's books, and I just started reading George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones, which is most excellent so far. Lot of shadow political games between nobles in a medieval setting.

The Pillars of Creation is the only book I didn't really like. Naked Empire and Chainfire are the latest two, both of which I liked. Chainfire does have a lot of 'soapbox' speeches though. My three favorites in the series are Stone of Tears, Soul of the Fire, and Faith of the Fallen. Stone of Tears is the best, IMO, though.

Edit - The tenth book, Phantom, is due out in Feb 06.

just gotta say... you guys are wrong

for a long time, I felt the same way, but after reading LotR after maturing and spending four years studying literature in college, I can really appreciate the fact that it's increadibly well-written.

Tolkien had a great way with words.

infinitely superior than any of the crap that RA Salvatore has produced.

That book is one of my favorite books. The follow up isn't as good as the first, but the only books I enjoyed in HS were A Separate Peace and Catcher in the Rye.

The Old Man and the Sea is in contention...that book was the most ridiculously stretched out story I've ever read in my life.

I think HP is fairly decent if you can accept the fact that it's a children's book. it's not exactly "literature," but it's certainly better than most of the junk in the preteen section at B&N.

Ah don't hate on Harry Potter fans. We read for leisure, it's not suppose to teach us anything or make us think. I take summer school, and spend the rest of the day reading something entertaining or going out. It's certainly more productive than playing games all day.
