ok so now i've made up my mind im staying with intel, however now comes the question of how much do i spend because i only wanted to make this project a 6 or 7 hundred dollar one. Im torn do i cheap out and get the Q6600 or do i go for the i7. Just putting some things together i have made a system for like 850 with the i7 and 650 with the Q6600. Im going to be using this system for maya and all adobe products and 3dsm. Some one just smack me and say to do one or the other.

Smack! I say, "Do one or the other", there you got what you asked for

Get the i7 and tell me what you get, then I can do the same. That way I won't have to decide what to get.

Do the programs you use keep you waiting while finishing an operation?

If the programs use lots of resources now they will use even more on the next release. Do you plan on upgrading software while you have this new system? Get the fastest you can now.

I hate waiting. At work yesterday I waited one hour for a 4 minute video to be made into a HD Windows Media Video file. I'm glad I don't have to do that very often.

Cant see you doing a i7 system for $850 unless you go way short on RAM and thats part of the speed. A 3 GB RAM i7 would never be as responseve as one with a lot more RAM. See if you can squeze some more money out and do the i7 right! Try Dell. Althouh they have locked BIOS, you cant go wrong if you dont wanna oc your i7 and with the speed of this cpu I see no real valed reason to do that.

You are going to be hard pressed to keep an i7 and x58 system w/ DDR3 inthe 600-700 range....

I would look at say a Q9400 to Q9550 with a good decent P45 mobo that can take advantage of on the floor DDR2 pricing....The difference between DDR3 and DDR2 are neglible all the way up to DDR1600mhz....

Thats a bit more than $866 but i can't complain as its good prices! I dont know if id put a 7200.10 on a i7 920. I think that a large part of the reason why my system is so fast is due to the veloceraptor.
