I have 3 partitions on my computer and I basically want to have my "Pictures" folders mirrored accross these 3 partitions. Basically everytime I make a change on one of the "Pictures" folder, the other 2 folders on the other partitions will have the same changes automatically. What's a good windows utility for that?

thanks

Syncback? A preliminary glance tells me it'd work well.

Thanks lokiju. Sorry, I haven't posted in a long time and didn't realize there are so many subforums now.

there is no need to do this at all.

if you're using NTFS partitions then use NTFS junctions to accomplish this.
NTFSLink (google it) adds the ability to create junctions easily via the right click menu. It also has a basic junction tracking feature that can be useful.

so if you have c:\pics

you can create f:\junction-name which automatically redirects to c:\pics\ and so on and so forth.

I don't think NTFS junctions will precisely accomplish the goal that the op seems to have. I believe that the op wants to do this mirroring for backup purposes. The NTFS junction utility just creates a symbolic link and not an actual copy of the file. Therefore it will not work for backup purposes.

To the op:

I also recommend MS Sync Toy. Free & easy to use and you can even do scheduled syncs if you want.

That is how I was originally thinking of it. But you can do a file recovery using junctions, it is similar to DFS. The thing is, the OP is using partitions and not separate hard drives. So, chances are if his hard drive crashes then hes going to lose the files anyways.

Though, formatting his windows partition and reinstalling windows, would leave the op with 2 partitions still containing all his data, and in that case the syncing may be more convenient and easier for restoration purposes than the junctions.
