Good video card for Asus P3V4X??? (cold boot issue)

Also posted this in the video forum, but thought it would fit here as well...


Looking for a good video card match for the ASUS P3V4X. I know there are cold boot issues with GeForce 2 GTS and Pro.

I assume the Geforce MX is okay and am thinking of going with that (this is for a non-power user)



Any thoughts?

Personally, I love my Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 card based on the Kyro II chipset. It's fast, stable, and cheap!! If you look around, an OEM version of this card can be had for around the same price as a GeForce2 MX400 card. It has great 2D, good DVD playback, and great 3D image quality!! The frame rates aren't top notch (about the level of a GTS, slower than a Pro), but I've always been more impressed with image quality than blind frame rates.

Bottom line: Get a Kyro II!!

Used the original GeForce 256 Guillemot in my P3V4X. Very stable with no problems. I currently have the ATI Radeon 64DDR in it now and it is also running very stable.
Hercules still sells that original GeForce card on their online store for $149. The original price on it was $289.
Used all types of drivers. The Hercules drivers and later on the Detonator drivers and never had any problems with any versions.

Thanks for the input... I'm going to go for a Radeon LE in this system because it seems to be a sure bet w/ modifications being required.

There is a fix for the cold boot issue somewhere it requires some soldering on the mobo itself but I can't remember the site !!! Plz somebody help me fresh up my memory.

I have a ELSA Geforce 2 GTS, and have no cold boot problems. I have read of other people having it, but not here. I have P3-650 running at a summertime 866.

I had the Creatives GF2 GTS and never came across this cold boot problem with the P3v4x. I now have the ASUS v8200 Deluxe GF3 and don't get the problem either.

Seems strange!
