I need to come up with about $2k of cash and hadn't budgeted for it. Does anyone have any good ideas on quick ways to earn cash without needing a shot of penicillin afterward?

Mow lawns, $50 a yard, 40 yards needed, probably clear that in a couple days if you're willing to sweat.

Otherwise sell stuff, pretty much anyone not living in a gutter has at least $2k worth of shit they don't need sitting around the house.

Are you reasonable healthy and in decent shape? You can apply to work as a loader/unloader/helper at UPS/FedEx.

The holiday seasons is coming up soon and they need a lot of help. I did work at UPS for a while and it was ok. A lot of hard manual labor work.

Or if you like animals, you can apply to work as a dog walker.

Or sign up with Fiver or TaskRabbit and such and earn some money.

I did this last year @ FedEx from November until mid-January. Hardest job I ever did, and at 49 I wasn't even sure my body would hold up to the pounding it took. By the time I left, I had dropped 15 lbs (I went in at a somewhat slim 185lbs on a 6-3 frame) and felt that I had never been in better shape, even going back to my years in senior high. I got into what I called 'porn shape', and had definition on my upper body and that 15 lb weight loss came entirely off of my gut. I had a HUGE appetite as well, so I ate more than I have since. I wonder how many calories I was taking in compared to how much I was burning off at the job.

First week your quads/legs will ache, second week your forearms, and the 3rd week it was my elbows and fingers that hurt. My knuckles swelled up so much that I couldn't remove my wedding ring. But at the end of the day, I walked out of that place knowing I had done the best I could - it was a huge sense of satisfaction that I was not getting at my day job at the time. I had a very young group of co-workers on that load area - most were between 18 and 24, and the 'old guy' on the shift until I showed up was 38. On my last day, I bought them all gift cards for local convenience stores and wrote them a thank you card for helping me out while I was there.

It was a blast, and I was looking forward to going back again this year until my left elbow decided to gift me with a bad case of tennis elbow. Little did I know that the recuperation time on this injury is 6-12 months ! I probably made a bit over 2k over those two months on the twilight shift, a 5p-10p shift designed for people like me who needed some extra income after their day job.

Is the issue the period of time that you need to make the money in, or will you never have the cash if you don't work more. A credit union can give you an unsecured loan at a decent rate.

I remember someone here in a somewhat similar situation. They wanted to get a brand new video card. I remember them being successful in their endeavor. You should look into it.
I thought I covered that when I stated I didn't want to have to get a penicillin shot.

I work 40 hours a week as it is...mowing lawns could work for me as I have all the equipment (riding mower/push mower), but don't have time to drum up business....plus, around here....grass has really slowed down. I've not mowed my own grass in 2 weeks.

Basically, I booked an expensive family vacation around the holidays and can cover all but the last $2k in cash. I'm blowing through money in my secondary cash accounts for home construction and don't want to touch that money. We just went to the beach last week, so I may hold off and shoot for a trip in March and save the worries.

"without needing a shot of penicillin afterward?"
Guess selling your kidney is out of the question?

Um...yes. You are living way to close to the financial edge in my opinion (the fact that you don’t have the money to cover this variance would indicate that). I’m a proponent of vacations, but you need to prioritize your wants/needs. If you’ve committed your money to construction (could be want or need...but to late on that)...then you’ve forfeited your want to go on vacation IMHO.

Pretty much this. Vacations are great but you should never have to come up with the money to go on one.

Easiest way to earn extra $2k? Ask for a raise. No extra work required on your part and all you have to do is ask.

I would just use credit myself, then pay it off over time. Just need to watch your spending more for a little while so you can pay it off faster.

I normally avoid using credit for stuff that I don't need, but these unforeseen costs is where it is good for.

What's this "earn" shit?! Borrow that money like an American. I recommend Highland financial services. He makes financing a dinner at PizzaHut feel extravagant ;^)

Interesting that you excluded just yourself.

So it appears your wife potentially needing a penicillin booster is open for discussion?

If so I think I have a solid plan to get you into that vacation.
