I felt comfortable enough to post an update for anybody that cares. I missed this place enough to come back, so obviously I do.

A lot has happened while I've been away. I'm still married, I have a better relationship with my family and I decided to share my diagnosis and the problems I had earlier that I left somewhat of a veil over.

Aside from having Marfan Syndrome and the accompanying hardware (two synthetic valves and a pacemaker), I also have been diagnosed as BiPolar I about 8 yrs ago.

In the past 4 years, I have been hospitalized numerous times (in the high 'teens) with a handful of those being psychiatric ward stays. The most recent hospitalization for my heart was December 23, 2014 and lasted only one night.

I'm currently on disability, backdated to May '13. Wife and I are are working things out best we can given the circumstances. She has her own health issues and is dealing with them accordingly. I will not go into details on this.

Anyhow, fwiw I'm back. I don't get out much, lost my car and have no means of transportation at the moment so I have some spare time. I figured I'd come back to a community I'd been part of for a long time.

Thanks.

Welcome back. My wife has been diagnosed as being bipolar in the past year. The most recent meds seem to be smoothing the episodes out but she still has the swings. She also suffers from back issues so when she gets maniac sometimes she will clean the house so much she hurts herself. I hope things workout ok for you. It is a real struggle sometimes. For us it was just a relief to finally get a diagnoses that explained her struggles.

Thank you. I was misdiagnosed with major depression at age 20 and diagnosed as BiPolar I with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and PTSD at age 35. Had some real ups and downs in my life, this just put a name to it. But I know what you mean, my wife is going through something similar now (diagnosis).

Thanks to everyone for the support, it's much appreciated.

A serious word of advice concerning being Bi-Polar.......
My sister was diagnosed Bi-Polar. The doctors told her they thought it was controllable with little to no meds.

If that is your case find another doctor!!

Also once we found a female doctor everything started getting better. She prescribed several medicines that were expensive but worked. She sees my sister once every 3 months. It use to be once every 2 weeks until they got the doses of the meds correct. Now my sister works a 40 hrs a week job and lives by herself! I think she takes a combination of Abilify....Zoloft and Colonzepam and Olanzapine. Plus they gave her Metaprolol Tartrate which when she does get anxious it keeps her heart rate from going to fast!

The right doctor is the key!! Most women do better with a woman doctor!

I am not a doctor..this is just my experience dealing with a sister who is Bi-Polar!!

Welcome back .

Hey.. take it easy man. Take good care of yourself, and make sure to finally put yourself in a pedestal; like look in the mirror in the morning, and yell, "I'm a fucking awesome, and today will be fucking awesome."

Get well dude.

Between my Psych meds and heart meds (and migraines) I take around 25 pills/day. I have to manage my heart, my blood pressure, my moods, my anxiety and my sleep with medication. As you can imagine it is a tall order which is why I'm so mixed up most of the time.

I appreciate your concern and hope your sister is doing well. My current Psychiatrist is a female as well as my Electrophysiologist who monitors one of my heart medications. Women doctors rule.

Appreciate the pep talk

UPDATE:

I had Aflutter/Afibrillation over the weekend (even the cardiologist couldn't tell which when I visited him on Monday.) So I made an appointment promptly Monday morning and he asked me to come to the hospital for *another* cardioversion on Tuesday morning. It was an outpatient surgery and I was released the same day.

I saw another cardiologist yesterday (the one who implanted my pacemaker) and he indicated I need an add-on defibrilator and an ablation procedure. It is scheduled for March 23. It will be a two day hospital stay.

So, in other words, my heart hates me. I'm still trying to sell some Blu-ray discs so check out my thread if interested.

Also, I turned down the opportunity to go to see Isaiah Austin tomorrow night because I'm just exhausted of this Marfan crap. It's a $200/seat fundraiser but I don't feel like putting up with all the drama involved. Instead I'll sit at home with the wife and drink beer and watch the Blues win.

I always say that life is much more fun than grave and being dead, so enjoy it to the max with whatever limited resources/health issues you might have.

Try and getup early around 5/6 AM and enjoy a nice walk, watch another day start from the beginning and breath a new life.
