Now you can enjoy your booze in peace!

I'm sure the Bears will try to sign Alexander now instead of admitting it's a rebuilding year and trying to develop Forte. =(

Good riddance.

G Wizard: I think teams will be weary because it seems like he has a drinking problem, and is carrying way too much baggage for a player who simply hasn't delivered.

If he was worth a damn as a running back he could have had 1,000 DUIs. You can't suck and have legal trouble at the same time.

The $64K question is why the Bears didn't cut him a long time ago.

He was the 4th overall pick and cost them a lot of money. They even got rid of Jones so they could hand him the #1 rb spot. If he didn't have all these off the field problems we'd probably have been stuck with him for another few years.

possibly. but this was the last straw. i do think if he was good they would have kept him longer. look at all the crap they put up with from Tank.

You're aware that he was he 4th overall pick, only a few years ago, right?

You're aware that he was being paid $3.x million a season to average 3.4 yards a carry, right? WTF cares what his draft position was? An overpaid bust is an overpaid bust.

I'm not disagreeing that he should be cut, but you don't cut your #4 overall pick after a disappointing season, you give him a little time, maybe he'll develop. Plus most top 5 picks get massive signing bonuses these days, so it isn't worthwhile from a cap perspective to cut them anyway.

No, but you do cut him after three disappointing seasons. He started bad and was getting worse as he went along. At his rate of development he was going to develop into a guy that got 2 yards a carry.

Like I said....no problem with him getting cut this year, but also no problem with them keeping him UNTIL now.

man, we've had some terrible luck with running backs since walter retired. The only one to come close to being good was neal anderson and thomas jones. bah. stupid upper management/owners.

If he had 1,000 DUIs, wouldn't matter if he was the best running back in the game - he'd be suspended by the commissioner. You can't be great and have massive legal troubles either. Then secondly, your "$64k question" is trumped by Benson's "$16m signing bonus".
