It'll probably take a week or two at this point. They probably won't start dropping prices until all of new shipments are in and accounted for.

That is if they have anything in stock, the last time I went into CC it was not stocked too well.

In the grand scheme of things, however, this doesn't matter much either way. Any reasonably intelligent shopper avoids both stores if he wants anything resembling a good deal.

Circuit City blows...I've hated that store ever since the first time I ever stepped foot in that store. Disorganized, dark, sh!tty employees and layout. Good riddance.

Ugh, the big stores pretty much wiped out all the small ones, and now crapusa and cc have gone too. Pretty much leaves just BB in my area, which means if I want anything for the computer outside of an extremely select list it muct be ordered online. Add on 1 less competator and I imagine the price drop of electronics will have a lot less downward pressure.

I just went there to buy a Guitar Hero wireless guitar for 20 bucks for my xbox 360 yesterday. Everytime I walk into a circuit city I feel like it's deserted. No one helps and it's really quiet. But it always gave me good deals so I can price match at other stores .

This is how it should be.
No government bailouts because the general economy is bad.
Freedom to fail helps keep the market healthy.

Not that I'm gloating over CC's demise. But with recent events it just had to be said.

Wow, we had a CC that opened here about a year ago. I got a few good deals there like some razer keyboards and mice when they stopped carrying them as well as some of the gyration keyboard/mice/remote combos. I hate they are closing, we don't even have a bestbuy here. And this circuit city has a decent amount of people there on a daily basis buying stuff :/

CNN Sad to see them go, but firing their best sales person was the worst move they did. Too bad 30,000 people lost their job. Hopefully the higher ups who made that decision don't get any $$$ for this.

After an experience a week ago I certainly understand why they went under.
They had a sale for 50%+ off all HBO series DVDs, thought it would be a great time to pick up Carnivale and maybe Rome.
Check online to see if the local store has them in stock.
Head over the local CC to grab them.
Get there and find the bin that had the dvds.
I find no Carnivale.
I ask the guy at the register island in that section if they have Canrivale in stock, I get a blank stare.
I repeat myself and ask if they have the HBO series Carnivale in stock.
The guy points to the bin and says they are over there. I politely tell him they aren't in there.
He responds with "Uhhh, let me ask my manager." and wanders off for 10 minutes.
He comes back and says "That's an online order item only." :|
I get pissed off and go to Best Buy, find what I want, price match it to CC and leave in 10 minutes.
THAT is why they are going out of business.

Oye, I use to work for those bastards..

During liquidiation, gift cards are good, cc credit cards don't work.

Don't expect the employees to be helpful. I didn't help a single damn person during our liquidation. My standard response was "write down the model number, go home and look it up" I was getting cussed at every 2 minutes for over a month. It was great seeing all these good for nothing assholes actually have to figure something out for themselves for once.

"Can you help me with the printers?"
-"no"
"But I don't know which ones scan"
-"The ones that have scanner thingies on the top scan"
"You are worthless"
-"All the information is printed on the box of the printer, you just have to learn to read"
"I want to talk to your manager!!"
-"My manager is a liquidator, and they are not present at the store. If you would like to leave and go buy your printer somewhere else I would much appreciate it though"
(storms off)

don't be in a rush... liquidation prices at the CC that closed in our town stayed at 40% off for a while which was regular price everywhere. Towards the last 3 weeks stuff start being real good deals. The last week was awesome... but you almost have to go everyday as it gets to be slim pickins. I ended up with a slingbox, traffic thing for tomtom, tons of memory cards and readers, new UPS, new video camera, and bunch of wii and PC games. If I owned a blu-ray I could have cleaned up with blu-ray movies selling for $5.

So... you were basically about as helpful as Circuit City employees have been the past couple years, right?

With "helpful" employees like you, it's no wonder Circuit City is going out of business.

I'm not going to defend cc, they can suck it for all I care. But can say that I busted my ass for several years .

It's funny how customers expect every employee to know everything about everything but yet the customer is unable to educate themselves of the one single product they are looking for. If you want help with networking I'll tell you as much as I know, but If I had network+ certifications and a+certifications and finished a computer science degree do you think I would be working at circuit city?

That company is doomed based on decisions from the top. Over the course of a few years they kept lowering the starting pay for new employees. It got to the point where the only people they could hire at their new starting pay is highschool kids. I really wouldn't expect to get good service in any of the stores. It just so happens that some stores here and there still had veteran employees still around which are the only worthwile ones to talk to. Evetually they will all be gone and there will be no reason to walk into any cc if you are one of those people who are incapable of educating yourself.

Apparently hiring people like you was part of their mistake. I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but one of the jobs, if not the primary job, of a salesperson, is to EDUCATE CUSTOMERS, regardless of what you're getting paid. That's why retail stores hire salespeople. If everyone knew everything about the products retail stores sale, there wouldn't be a need for sales associates. The fact that they cut the experienced staff and hired people like you indicate that the managers of CC had the same opinion of customers that you have. Look where it got them.

(On a side note, do you expect to actually ever get a "real" job with that kind of attitude? In almost any job you'll get, customer service will be part of it. I suggest you learn to deal with it or find a career where you don't have to deal with people.)

I'll be sure to treat everyone I talk to on my job with the same attitude as yours. I'm sure that won't get me fired in short order.

I went into mine today and noticed that there are alot of "open box" laptops around 800. With these laptops being not "retail" new, will these get price cuts too?

Maybe I need to clarify some things.
First of all, what I described is not my normal work ethic.
Second, it was liquidators orders to not help people. Yes, you heard it right. They weren't trying to make friends with customers. They wanted the sales people free from customers to help watch for theft and ring out people. So according to my updated job description, I was not suppose to help anybody. If I was caught elaborately helping somebody I was to be fired instantly. The liquidators only concern was to not get stuff stolen, and to push as much product out the door as possible. Yes, that may sound counterintuitive, but look at it this way. If something gets bought that costs them $100 and it sells for $120. They make $20. But if something gets stolen that costs $100 dollars, they then have to sell 5 of them just to make up for lost profit.

There was enough traffic in the store that they didn't care if somebody didn't buy anything because they needed help. Only that things didn't get stolen because no sales people where around to stop it.

Is there anything else you can accuse me of without even knowing anything about me?

If they are still around within the last couple days, you'll probably get them for < $100.

Soon I will be forced to go to walmart for electronics.

Why? No BB or you refuse to take advantage of their deals when they offer them?

Why buy 3rd and 4th tier electronics from WallMart? Why buy Fullscreen-only DVD?
