CD's and movies and such are 20% off
TVs, etc are 10%
Games are 10% GH3 is $39.
Game accessories are 30%
Car audio is 10% IIRC
Cameras are 10% iirc. Comps the same I think.

No outstanding deals. Did want to get some 360 pts @ 30% off, but long gone by the time I went. Nothing worth getting at this point. There are some potential good deals if you want floor models of TVs or the like. You get the open box price + discount. A samsung 50" 1080p DLP would be $850. That I would have snagged if I needed one.

Another perfect example. GH3 @ BB, $19.99

Actually that was the game and guitar, so only decent example. BB had them for $59 iirc before Xmas, and CC had them for $42. The local CC ran out of the Wii ones, so I had one PM'd at BB for a gift. There is a ton of them for PS3 and 360 left tho. Rockbands and others too. Maybe they'll get cheap later

Nice try... but I typically shop online. And when I do enter a CC or a BB, I make sure to avoid the retail staff as much as possible - they're usually about as helpful as a canker sore. So keep your hands to yourself, please.

The last time I purchased anything/something was last century.

So no worries that they're going away.

I went today. All the wii stuff appeared to only be 10% off of MSRP.

They cannot check prices at the kiosks on the floor, they make you go to customer service. The one at willowbrook mall in Houston looked to be fully stocked. Lots of people and hardly anyone buying anything. Customer service line was long with people checking prices.

I was not impressed. I left and went and bought some stuff at bestbuy actually. (had a GC)

I didn't see if this was posted yet:

Liquidation Sales

Cliffs:

Going out of business sales are usually managed by external "liquidation companies," who jack up the prices before marking them down, bring in non-store merchandise, and generally try their best to make a profit, at your expense.

I think we can all reminesce to the days Comp USA started their liquidation.

First few weeks and even months you probably won't be finding any deals there.

I'm with Kalmah here. I've never worked retail but the things you see from your fellow consumers while at a store can be eye-opening. You may be a smart consumer but I'll bet there are 10 people in your place who are not - half of those are probably rude and were never taught manners. They look down at these retail employees from the time they step in the store. How do you really deal with that? And someone's gotta do the job.

there were never any deals there, way too many idiots buying crap at prices similar to what they would have been when the store was open just because a sign at the end of the isle said it was a big sale.

care to elaborate?

Dunno what there is to elaborate besides boring stuff. I worked at CC back in 2006-2007 as a lead of a department. In March of 07 they got rid of anyone who was more than $0.50/hr over their pay band. I had just gotten my review and the highest score in the store, but my managers got some advance warning and didn't key in my raise so I missed getting fired by about $0.50. My 3rd best salesperson got fired. In may 07, my tech lead, who was disgusted by all this, quit.

In May 07, phase two was implemented and every single manager and lead in the company was fired, moved to a different store, or "promoted", my top sales guy who was semi-parallel to me (had been a mgr before and been with company a long time) got "promoted" to a supervisor spot of another department. My second best sales person who was also semi-parallel to me got fired.

I got "promoted" to a supervisor spot which meant I ran 3 depts instead of 1 but received no pay increase as it would have made me go over the cap and get fired. 3 of the 5 managers in my store were exiled to lower ranked stores, 1 was promoted (my mgr) and new "fast trackers" were brought in. At the end of July, I turned in my resignation and left.

Kalmah's job existed because customers need his help. If all consumers were smart, they'd just throw product on the shelves and hire a buncha cashiers. Doesn't matter how rude they are, or whether they look down on him. His job exists because of them.

How do you deal with that? Realize that:
1) Stupid people need my help, and I can provide them excellent assistance. Doesn't matter if they shoulda read the price sticker. Doesn't matter if it says clearly on the box that it works only with Windows Vista. It's my job to help people who can't - or won't - help themselves.
2) People who are rude to me are doing so because either their needs are not being met or they are simply jerks by their very nature. If the former, how can I help meet their needs? If the latter, there's nothing I can do about it, and I shouldn't take it personally. How does it help the situation if I'm rude back to them? Just deal with it and help them the best you can.

I've been a tech for an awfully long time, and I've seen more than my fair share of "stupid users". Been cursed at, looked down on, lied to, you name it - particularly when I was a newbie tech. But I wasn't rude to them or belittled them, even if they "deserved it" or was rude to me first. My job existed because of those "stupid users". It's the exact same principle with "stupid customers".

At the end of July, I turned in my resignation and left.

And people wonder why we have bad attitudes alot of the time. I had lost so much respect for the company I could barely take it. I was on the verge of quiting as it was. Everybody around me getting fired because they get paid too much. I was hired just in time to be under the cap for all of this. But then they started bringing in idiots to replace the others. Then they introduced the ISCE model.. where instead of being specialists we where expected to work the entire store. And then they introduced the 'product flow team' so that we wouldn't have to deal with tags and such while working the entire store. But they couldn't figure out how to make that work so sales where doing the tags and stuff all at the same time as running the entire floor. At the end of the night, PFT(product flow team) goes home when store is closed.. then ALL of the fucking missing tags in the store that PFT was suppose to do was the sales peoples responsibility... or we couldn't leave. Which made it so that during the last 2 hours of the store being opened we would purposely ignore customers so that we could get tags out so we could go home on time. How do you expect the new hires at minimum wage to care about doing all this?
And then they decided to take away our keys so that we couldn't get stuff out of cages for customers. CUSTOMERS FIRST! But wait.. they couldn't put customers first because now they had to worry about all the minimum wage highschool kids stealing.. so now it takes an extra 20 minutes on each customer just to find keys. So customers weren't first! Customers get tired of waiting while we run around the store looking for a fucking set of keys.

Man, I could go on and on. Everything that they did was counter-intuitive to what they actually wanted.

They did worse a few years back. Circuit City used to be commissioned. In February of 2003 they took it away, and gave everyone their hourly average. If your average was over a certain line, you got fired. This was a clear cut way to get rid of your best sales people...absurd.

My average was over the line, but I was transferring stores at the time...so I got away without being fired, the new store treated me as a new hire...which was 1/3 the pay I was making. Needless to say, I didn't try quite as hard after that.

one of my coworkers went to CC over the weekend... said that crowds were insane but none of the "deals" were really that different than what you can find online with 30 seconds of searching any day of the week.

I popped into our local Circuit City and was underwhelmed with the prices. Essentially everything was 10% off. I suppose that is an okay deal, but nothing really mind-blowing.

All of the experts in Hot Deals will probably tell you that the best time to go to a liquidation sale is during the first day or two of Week 3, when discounts are raised to about 30% off. The selection is still pretty good at that point, but by the end of the week 3 half of the store is cleared out.

The second best time is probably during the last week or two when things are down to 70% off. If you're lucky (or you have inside help), you'll get there when they're dumping the last of the excess inventory from the warehouse. You might find a few gems like old software or printer ink scattered through the random crap that's left over.

Yup. Growing up my older brother's friend's family owned a furniture shop. They signed a lifetime lease on the building under the name of their LLC. Well, the LLC that leased the building would sublease to the LLC that operated the furniture store. The store was way over priced and wouldn't sell anything for a couple of years. When it started to look bleak, the furniture LLC would go BK and liquidate. They made so much money during the liquidation that they could pay their living expenses for a couple of years. Since they still had the lease through the parent LLC, they started a new furniture LLC under a different name. A couple of years later, they went BK, liquidated, and made a ton of money. It all boiled down to the fact that they made a career out of bankrupting companies and making oodles of money off of the liquidations. In the 15 or so years I lived in that town, they ran about 9 companies into the ground using that method.

My local CC was 30% off starting on Saturday. The line was out the door trying to get in. If I had the patience, I may have tried to get a PS3.

From what I've read, the liquidation % discount varies by the liquidator. CC is using 4 different ones.
