I popped into our local Circuit City and was underwhelmed with the prices. Essentially everything was 10% off. I suppose that is an okay deal, but nothing really mind-blowing.

All of the experts in Hot Deals will probably tell you that the best time to go to a liquidation sale is during the first day or two of Week 3, when discounts are raised to about 30% off. The selection is still pretty good at that point, but by the end of the week 3 half of the store is cleared out.

The second best time is probably during the last week or two when things are down to 70% off. If you're lucky (or you have inside help), you'll get there when they're dumping the last of the excess inventory from the warehouse. You might find a few gems like old software or printer ink scattered through the random crap that's left over.

My local CC was 30% off starting on Saturday. The line was out the door trying to get in. If I had the patience, I may have tried to get a PS3.

From what I've read, the liquidation % discount varies by the liquidator. CC is using 4 different ones.

Yeah, the one here was selling the PS3 for $10 less than Besy Buy, and Guitar Hero III was $10 more expensive. Woohoo...what a deal.

I was in there on Thursday pre-liquidation announcement and saw some prices. On Saturday I was in there again and everything was still the same price it was on Thursday. No mystery stickers were slapped on there jacking up the prices as I've seen at other liquidation sales.

The Peoria, IL store was only 10% off listed price.

I wonder if the PSN Cards would be part of the clearance. They have 30% off all video game accessories at my store, which it technically is, but its almost like a gift card.... Hmmm

Thats what happens when you fire people who are selling too much for you.

Yeah, I lost my two best salespeople in that debacle. I quit later that year.

care to elaborate?

Dunno what there is to elaborate besides boring stuff. I worked at CC back in 2006-2007 as a lead of a department. In March of 07 they got rid of anyone who was more than $0.50/hr over their pay band. I had just gotten my review and the highest score in the store, but my managers got some advance warning and didn't key in my raise so I missed getting fired by about $0.50. My 3rd best salesperson got fired. In may 07, my tech lead, who was disgusted by all this, quit.

In May 07, phase two was implemented and every single manager and lead in the company was fired, moved to a different store, or "promoted", my top sales guy who was semi-parallel to me (had been a mgr before and been with company a long time) got "promoted" to a supervisor spot of another department. My second best sales person who was also semi-parallel to me got fired.

I got "promoted" to a supervisor spot which meant I ran 3 depts instead of 1 but received no pay increase as it would have made me go over the cap and get fired. 3 of the 5 managers in my store were exiled to lower ranked stores, 1 was promoted (my mgr) and new "fast trackers" were brought in. At the end of July, I turned in my resignation and left.

And people wonder why we have bad attitudes alot of the time. I had lost so much respect for the company I could barely take it. I was on the verge of quiting as it was. Everybody around me getting fired because they get paid too much. I was hired just in time to be under the cap for all of this. But then they started bringing in idiots to replace the others. Then they introduced the ISCE model.. where instead of being specialists we where expected to work the entire store. And then they introduced the 'product flow team' so that we wouldn't have to deal with tags and such while working the entire store. But they couldn't figure out how to make that work so sales where doing the tags and stuff all at the same time as running the entire floor. At the end of the night, PFT(product flow team) goes home when store is closed.. then ALL of the fucking missing tags in the store that PFT was suppose to do was the sales peoples responsibility... or we couldn't leave. Which made it so that during the last 2 hours of the store being opened we would purposely ignore customers so that we could get tags out so we could go home on time. How do you expect the new hires at minimum wage to care about doing all this?
And then they decided to take away our keys so that we couldn't get stuff out of cages for customers. CUSTOMERS FIRST! But wait.. they couldn't put customers first because now they had to worry about all the minimum wage highschool kids stealing.. so now it takes an extra 20 minutes on each customer just to find keys. So customers weren't first! Customers get tired of waiting while we run around the store looking for a fucking set of keys.

Man, I could go on and on. Everything that they did was counter-intuitive to what they actually wanted.

Yeah, I could go on and on too, I left all the crap that happened to me out of it. I try to self-censor more these days as I embark on my professional career.

I cant believe the gall of these liquidators. I was at CC last sat the 17th and saw a dlink router for 34.95-10% and a 2g micro sd card for 8.99. Today I go there and see the same router for 54.95 and the sd card for 27.99. WTF. Not a good way to liquidate.

Yup noticed that myself. I never paid $21.99 for a DVD - that same one was $14.99 last week. Now its 10% off $21.99.

Soon I will be forced to go to walmart for electronics.

Before best buy, People used to Go to Sears, JC Penny, Montgomery Wards, or Mom and Pop Dealers.

Its a great way to liquidate if you are a liquidator and the buying public is stupid.

They don't reduce the prices by jack shit.

if you say so.

I scored 5 Xbox 360 games for about $40 total from one of the store closings in December.

But really, what kind of person complains about the prices of a company that is just trying to pay their bills before they shut their doors? Boo-Hoo... the company is going out of business and won't sell shit for ridiculously cheap...

That wasn't the liquidation company setting those prices. That was CC.

CC isn't allowed to adjust the prices...only the liquidators can.

The reason people stopped going to Sears, JC Penny, et al. was that they were overpriced and had very little selection compared to Circuit City & Best Buy. The only one on that list still around is Sears (at least in my area), and on a good day you can choose from 5 TVs, 3 DVD players, and a couple iPods. Nowadays, on-line is the way to go price-wise. Hopefully Best Buy can ride out the depression because otherwise there will be no brick & mortar stores to evaluate or get these things.

Got an email from them with a title about increased savings, have they changed the 10-30% levels already or is this just another scam?

I went yesterday and looked around. I was surprised at how empty our store is getting, especially considering that so far the deals aren't that much better than ordinary sale prices.

I went to Circuit City last week, and the TV's were up to 20% off. All of the computers and cameras were still only 10% off, though.

Can someone give me a heads up when it gets to 30% off? I want a 37" LCD for a bedroom

I went yesterday, and my store was also almost out of stock.
I wanted a LCD tv in the 32 to 37 range, and there were none to be had in
2 stores. I was also looking for a xbox 360, but a guy in one of the stores said they
were long gone. Anyone looking for a plasma set better go soon. They were flying out
of the door.

Best Buy and other competitors are going to be buying the majority of the inventory. That's why the liquidators don't really care about you .

Went in on Saturday, and wow did this suck.

They are 20% off on most things, 30% on cables (gotta love a 6 ft optical cable "marked down" from $80 to $50ish), and 25% on movies/games.

All the NIB HT receivers were 10% when they were sold out.

All the console accesories are gone with some exceptions (I especially liked the wireless sensor bar that is "gauranteed by Circuit City").

HDTV's are wiped out except for open box stuff, or the 42+ sizes.

HD's are gone (and still over priced, like $77 for a 500 gb WD drive or $140 for a 1 TB drive).

The only thing I *may* buy is the Denon/Onkyo HTIB stuff. I doubt it will get as cheap as I would want it to get to buy (40% would be where I'd consider it).

He said he bought the controllers in December. That was a CC sale pre-liquidation.

Yep... the prices still suck. As of 2/4, It's still 20% off for stuff like LCD TV's and speakers, and 10% off for laptops and desktops.

I noticed that they're putting up signs telling folks that the furniture is on sale now, though... that's usually a sign that they're going to get serious about liquidating things soon.

Are all sales final? No returns? Buyer beware.
