I don't think everything will be fine. I think there will be pandemonium. I think there will be a great deal of whining and angst. I think people will post bitter denunciations of everyone involved with the project and leave the AT forums in anger. I think lives will be ruined by reset post counts. I think there will be thousands of posts by people fighting valiantly to defend their join date. I think the issues forums will be overflowing with the outraged ranting of thousands of pale friendless virgins who's very existence is threatened by a software change.

I think it's going to be the most fun I've ever had here.

It was more fun a couple of years ago when ?upgrades? were done and people were logging into someone elses accounts

You kid right?

I know, I died a little inside when I wrote that

i am willing to bet that the majority are above average intelligence.

Can we bring back the old school, cartoon-ish smileys? Yes, I'm still griping about that

I hope that AT spend more time this round on research so that they don't repeat their past mistakes, by be a technology lemming that constantly strive to have new shining toy/beta testers.

If they didn't import threads, how long would it take ATOT to fill up the front page, and how long would it take for a repost to occur?

Yup. Why the change? I love Fusetalk -- VB is so generic IMO.

This sucks - and I better get to keep my briefcase.

...because Fusecrap is like $5 grand to license and is still buggy as fuck( I mean come on the last patch they tried to use killed the forums for a few hours a few months ago...).vBulletin is like $500 max. permanently. and $60 for updates per year after the first year.

I rather have some generic board (that AT will be skinning out--they already said this in another Vb thread a while back--). On top of that VB makes it a lot easier for the mods when it comes to taking care of spammers, trolls , etc.

Overall, this will be better for AT... and I support it.

Never been banned, I occasionally register new user name/account.

Applle was the very first alias that I use in 1997 here.

The people that haven't been around for 10 years perhaps aren't educated on how FuseTalk came to be...

The developer for FuseTalk (Zuni, a Canadian dude) worked for AnandTech and built FuseTalk around AT's needs. It ran in tandem with UBB through the summer of 1999, a test phase in which users could join and test post and troll freely and whatever. The slate was wiped clean on October 9, 1999 and everyone had to register again and start anew.

FuseTalk moved from ColdFusion to ASP years after and kind of lost its charm after becoming big and expensive. It should have been vBulletin from the get-go.

To restart all the users and threads again seems to be a good idea, clear everything out every 10 years or so.

The only problem is, WWYBYWB?

while im still going to be posting on AT after the switch, im going to have to say that its going to look like CRAP. ive always liked AT for its nice clean fusetalk powered forum. i have yet to find a site that is very polished and professional looking like it. every single VB forum that ive joined never ever makes an attempt to look decent. i either have like 20 posts in the last few years (compared to over 7000 here starting from 2001) on them or less...it just sucks, and its really hard to navigate as well (imo).

although i welcome change, and with that being said, i hope AT makes the right ones.
