thank you all for the kind words. The support that this community gives is why I come. It really means a lot to me. I can only wait until the pain in the back of my throat eases and the tears stop sneaking through. fabulous posts Rubycon and TotalNoob.

We couldn't bring ourselves to send him to the next life at the house. I just couldn't bear to come home and remind myself what had happened.

Sorry for your loss. I had to put down my cocker spaniel/lab mix 3 years ago at the age of 13 and that was a hard thing to do. His last 4 months of his life we watched his health decline and fought with what the right decision was to do. We tried different medications in hopes of finding a cure for him, but it only hid issues he had. The hardest part for me was to see him cry because the pain medication wasn't able to do enough for him. It makes me pray that I don't have to put down my beagle because it will put me through another train wreck.

I lost my cat this past January, two days before my birthday. He was with us for nine great years.

When you're ready, you should get another dog. It won't replace (nothing ever can) Ted, but it might help fill that void in your life left by Ted's passing.

When you lose a friend or relative there is usually time to express your feelings before they go. There is closure at a funeral and eventually you come to terms with your grief.

With pets it's different. No matter how much you explain to them how you feel by staring into their eyes, there is a strangeness that they just don't understand why they are feeling funny and fading away.

I miss my parents, but I miss my former pets even more.

I had to put my dog Ted to sleep today. It was the right thing to do but it doesn't lessen the pain I feel right now. He lived a great life and died a good death. He was 13 and had congestive heart failure.
