Metroid Prime Remastered is fantastic. The game was so ahead of it's time. I can't believe the game is 20 years old. I am not anxiously awaiting MP4.

My only gripe really is all the back tracking, and the control of the map doesn't help with that. It just seems like there could be more links to the main overworld which would have helped with some of the backtracking, but there isn't.

Playing this now and having issues with controlling the map screen, I actually remember having those same issues when I played it at launch on Gamecube back in the day.
Panning and rotating in the map are backwards from what you would expect. It's mildly infuriating. I can adapt quickly but I have to force a toggle in my brain after manipulating it wrong every time I open it.

Yeah I always press the wrong stick for whatever I want to do initially, unless I am jumping RIGHT back into it. I wish there was a compass on the HUD too I think that would be helpful.

I think I am at the final boss of MPR though. I got to what I think is the boss last night and then cut it off since it was late.

My younger son is enjoying it, I told him he can play it, but after I'm done with Bloodstained I'm going to want it back. I watched him play it for a bit and does look fun!

Kickstarter backer of Bloodstained here and while I "beat it" on Switch I wish I would have gotten it on any other platform. The performance is just bad, and for me the final boss sequence was a chug fest. Thank goodness my Wii U pledge got changed to Switch at least

They keep updating it and I recently (months ago now) opened it back up and was WOAH NEW SHARDS MUST FARM but put it back down.

Played about a 1/3rd of it on the xbox because it was in Game Pass and it was soooo much smoother.

I stopped playing Astral Chain and will not buy Bayo 3 until there is a next gen console and next gen version of it. I don't want to play smeary jank messes, no matter how good the game is honestly. There are too many games.

That said, Nintendo first party titles I am down for, looking forward to Tears.

I was tempted to get the PS4 version to play on my PS5 but I figured the game was old enough to not have the frame rate issues, a few reviews of it said to not be afraid of the switch version for these exact reasons (eyeroll) and well figured this was a game I would enjoy being portable. Live and learn I suppose.

So beat the game last night, got like 99.5% map completion, did farm up and max out some shards. I see there are other game modes, tried to see what the classic was, but it seemed to just hang with the rose icon animation in the lower right hand corner for a very long time so just closed it. Then wanted to see what the other character options were to start with; meh don't really see a reason to replay it with those two other options. My kid hasn't beat Prime yet, so I guess I'll try and play/finish Darkest Dungeon to give him more time.

Ok so really enjoying Bloodstained, but am surprised my switch does have fps drop during certain times. So far my largest gripe with the game is the limited information your shards do (e.g. mostly with familars, like how much damage they do or other abilities they get as you level/rank them up).
OH, well you are a couple years behind and theres loads of FAQ's but I will summarize.

MOST damaging shards get more powerful as you farm more shards. Thats the Grade.
Rank is increased by upgrading and requires crafting materials. The description says what the Rank does but normally it covers a larger area or hits faster.
Some shards gain nothing from Grade, some gain nothing from Rank, some get nothing from either (Utility and movement shards).
Protection shards get a slight increase in power from Grade, and from Rank usually get the ability to occasionally nullify a type of attack.
Familiars just keep doing more and more damage, with Rank, Grade, and Level.
The book familiar also gives you more stat boosts with each Rank.

The chair restores MP. Increasing Rank only gives you more varieties of chairs, which is useless but fun.
Increasing Grade slightly boosts the MP restoration, but not by much.

Detective Eye gets nothing special until Rank 9, where it auto collects items, and thats actually useful.

Boosting shards get slightly more boost with each Grade, and the Rank is in the description.

Augment Gold gets you slightly more gold with each Grade, and Rank increases the probability of a super bonus drop.

Alchemic Bounty gets you more items with Grade, and increases the likelihood of it happening at all with Rank.

Classic is just a crappy platformer, its not much fun. Neither is Aurora mode.
Randomizer is fun but can be difficult. You may go a long time before you get a weapon, and the game is shockingly difficult without one.
On the other hand, sometimes you get lucky and pick up really good items in the Galleon which makes the game kind of a joke.

I got all that, my point was in game the bonus was vague. Like what's better if you are using a sword, the optimizer or the sword expertise shard? I just stuck with the optimizer since it was universal. Or how much the damage boost was from the book, or hey the fairy will alert you to secrets, you can use the wheel guy to jump off of, stuff like that.

Optimizer is always better. In a normal game you dont get it until very late. Higher grade gives a STR bonus. STR applies damage to all weapons even guns or weird stuff like that Red Umbrella.
But it has a higher strength bonus which you can see in your stats. What you cant see unless you do loads of experimenting is it also hits faster, and since you dont have to swap it out with weapons, its overall better. You get lucky on a Randomizer game and the Mortes or Bats give out Optimizers you are sitting pretty.

So I see Hogwarts Legacy is coming to the Switch. Don't think the Switch would be able to run it well so the Steam version is probably better. Issue is kids prefer playing on the Switch than PC. Going to have to wait until release to see what the graphics is like and how it runs.

They are apparently making a separate gutted version of the game for Switch (as well as PS4/XBO IIRC).

Just another reason we need a Switch U that's at least as powerful as the Steam Deck ASAP.

Not that Nintendo cares, or will care any time soon.

I am just done picking up anything but first party titles on the Switch. The Series X and PS5 are not hard to get now and bring all the Switch benefits, minus portability, to the quality of life a gamer might want. IMO.

Tears of the Kingdom is definitely feeling like another BOTW. Really nails the open world exploration the same way and has some pretty cool puzzles I have run into. Can already tell I'll be putting hundreds of hours into this just like BOTW. Really wish we would have gotten a Switch Pro though to run the game a bit higher res. Should really look amazing in a year or so when Yuzu is able to run this 4k60.

Are you playing it on emu? I thought the release wasn't for another week but I had heard it had leaked.

Only a few hours in but based on early impressions I think TOTK is going to end up quite a bit better game than BOTW.

I could never get into BOTW. I loved ocarina of time and Majora's mask but BOTW wasn't doing much for me and I tried 3 times to get into it so I could complete it. I'm thinking the new Zelda game will be more of the same as BOTW.

Have you seen the Ocarina PC port?

That is pretty cool. I knew there probably was an emulator but it's neat to see how much work went into this particular mod and quality of life features.

Not a mod, it's a native pc port. You just need the n64 rom to supply the assets from the game. Loved Ocarina back in 98 but it's painful to play at 20 fps on modern screens so I'm so glad this released. I think this port can even run up to 255 fps now.

So after playing Prime remastered I find myself really not wanting to continue, the game seems tedious. Between the visor switching and gun switching while trying to be a FPS just isn't doing it for me, it's bothersome back tracking long distances to other areas. I'm just not finding the mechanics enjoyable.

While I loved Prime remastered and think after playing it, it was way ahead of it's time, really my only gripe as well is all the back tracking. That is kind of a staple of Metroid, but more recent ones I've played (dread) have fast-warps, which could have helped a lot in this game going back to it.

Okay I have another gripe - the god damn map. I don't know why but even by the end of playing the game I got the damn controls of the map still confusing me and I'd always press the wrong direction. And I wish there was a little map on the HUD so I didn't have to pause it constantly to look at the map. That is part of what made the backtracking even worse.

But by the end of the game when you are fully powered up, back tracking is not an issue because you kind of fly through every area you encounter.

I didn't mind the visor stuff but I would get a little confused with switching weapons/visors sometimes. The only part I really disliked is when you get the heat visor. Those enemies in that part were just annoying and boring to face, and it was hard to navigate sometimes in the heat vision.

Heat visor/x-ray and in general and needing to swap weapons was super annoying for me. With regards to the map - you kind of learn where you are after a while. The map could use some tuning, but I didn't think that the back-tracking was that bad. The only thing that I really hated were those
fission metroids
. However, there is no doubt that 2d Metroid is better. The controls, the feeling - it's just better.
