I'd probably feel different if the Switch debuted at $300 while the Playstation 4 without a game was going for $400. The disparity would still be smaller than it was the generation before, where it was $250 wii vs $600 PS3. But still, $100 difference in price may have been enough to make an apples and oranges comparison. Now it's $300 without a game vs $300 with a game, with higher and faster software discounts and less near mandatory accessories. The more you think about it, the worse a value the Switch becomes.

I have a shocking confession to make. Despite having Twilight Princess HD for a few months, I have yet to play it for more than 15 minutes. Seeing as how I have two copies of Breath of the Wild on preorder, I probably should get started...

I bought Twilight Princess in 2009 and haven't gotten farther than the first 35 minutes. I know it's famous for having one of the slowest starts for such a critically acclaimed game so I'm going to have to give it a real chance sometime. I have been meaning to, but here we are 8 years later lol.

In hindsight I should have bought it for the Gamecube. I was saving myself for the Wii version though because its widescreen support seemed to make it the "definitive" version. Unfortunately, 3 years after release I still couldn't manage to find a Wii anywhere and by the time I had, I had lost interest. I should have just got the Gamecube version and skipped the Wii altogether. Anything good on it I can play in 4k off of Dolphin anyways.

Twilight Princess was terrible. I played it for like 6 hours and it was slower than Shindlers List still. If a game can't engage me after 6 hours I am checking out.

The problem is this is not 2013 or early 2014. This is 2017, there is cheaper competition with more powerful hardware. more games.

I'm of the opinion that one does not buy a console for hardware. The best deal is always going to be a CPU+MB combo from Microcenter plus a current gen video card. When you buy a console you are getting it for ease of use, or exclusive titles. No console has ever been a great deal for the hardware alone. "More games" means very little to me, I have hundreds of games I never play from steam sales. Quality is more important than quantity for me right now.

The most interesting things to me are the things I don't have on my PC. Mobility, motion controls, Nintendo exclusives- sounds good.

How hard is it to get a Wii-mote and nunchuk working correctly on Dolphin?

Not that shocking. The last console Zelda that I actually played more than a hour was A Link to the Past. I did thoroughly enjoy A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS. Seems like I own multiple copies of all the games in between on the Wii and Wii U but something about a 3D Zelda just hasn't resinated with me yet. Hopefully Breath of the Wild will break that streak.

Kinda hard normally, unless you buy a Dolphin Bar and then its stupid easy. TP is kinda crappy looking in Dolphin without a texture pack honestly.

Let's not beat around the bush and just list our favorite Zeldas:

1. LttP
2. OoT
3. WW
4. The OG one
5. Link's Awakening

I personally have played Crossbow training (works great and looks great in Dolphin) more than Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword because I dislike motion controls in Zelda.

It was still better than the travesty that is skyward sword.

Switch textures are vastly superior.
While it looks that way, I think on the Wii-U shot the camera is much closer to the cliff than on the Switch version. You can see a hard edge that looks like a 90~ degree turn or son the Wii-U version, where as you don't see it on the Switch. Also they are clearly from different angles.

But it does look noticeably different if they were the same distance away. I would think Nintendo would have pointed out the textures are better on the Switch version in their bullet point list of differences though, if they were in fact different.

These comparison screen shots from different angles at different times of the day aren't helping much.

I was going to delete my post, but since you already responded I'll keep it in. Did a bit of research and it sounds like that particular comparison is flawed because the wii u side is from an earlier demo of the game vs retail version from switch.

I think that IGN page comparing them actually said it might be different builds too, so it was confirmed then?

I had the Game Cube version. Loved it. I highly recommend giving it a chance, but hopefully you don't have to use motion controls.

It is a little slow...I can't even remember much of the beginning. However, the rest of the game makes up for it.

I understand your position, but I still say give it a chance. There was something about the mood in TP. While I wouldn't call it "dark," it's still one of the darker LoZ games.

Personally I wish they'd grow the series up. Not dramatically, but at least insert a little more grit.

It was still better than the travesty that is skyward sword.

I haven't played that one yet. It's no good?

As you may be able to tell, I am a bit of a Zelda fan.

I was a big fan of TP myself (played on Wii... did not like motion control, but thought game was great overall), but did not like Skyward Sword. Getting BotW on Wii U if the only differences are graphical, don't care too much how drastic the difference. Just not a fan of the Switch right now and the way it has been presented so far.

It's a pain in the ass. I got a usb wii sensor bar accessory off of ebay but you can probably make it work with a bluetooth adapter.

Did you use the Dolphin Bar? Does it feel just like using the real thing on games that use motion controls?

It feels really cheap compared to the official bar that comes with the Wii and came slightly bent. I had a hell of a time getting it configured and getting all the drivers installed. After I did though, I detected no problems.

Good point, I don't actually use mine as a sensor bar I should note. I have a big badass one that runs on double As I bust out for that. To me the Dolphin Bar was worth it just to have a perfectly working connection. It is a workable but inferior sensor bar.

As you may be able to tell, I am a bit of a Zelda fan.

What ruined it for me was the controls. Even with wii motion plus it's not accurate enough and you absolutely have to slash the correct direction to land attacks. I ended up getting low health or losing because I was fighting controls more than the difficulty. Plus the game didn't really offer the freedom it should have with the flying stuff.
