I wish it were possible to keep different saves for Breath of the Wild like you could in the very first game on NES. Such as it is you can save your game manually but they will all be replaced by autosaves eventually.

You can make different users on the Switch and each will have separate saves that don't overwrite each other but you can't copy saves to my knowledge.

Finally put my dock sock on.

It fit pretty well and makes the Switch slide on a little tighter, but it's okay since it's against micro fiber. I didn't notice any extra heat or anything.

Do we really need to put a sock on the dock if you don't get one of those docks with a bend that resulted from bad QQ?

Dunno but my Switch has a few scratches on the bottom left part that is off the screen because of the way the dock is. I probably have a bent dock.

The English Puyo Puyo Tetris came out the other day for download. English demo, too, for anyone who downloaded the Japanese one before.

Man I had a serious wtf moment today. I was watching the reviews thinking "man, I gotta get the Switch more than ever now, Mario Kart looks amazing". And then, I'm like, Shit. I could play it online right now if I wanted to. For FREE! I already own this damn game.

So, is MK8 going to use the joycons? One side for each player? I just realized if I get MK8 for Switch, I may not be able to play multiplayer unless I buy some more controllers. I've got the two joycons that came with it, and one pro controller I bought for Zelda. But there's going to be fighting for that pro controller. I can feel it now. The modern day handing your guest the MadCatz.

$60 game turns into a $300 game real quick. Do I just need one more joycon or three more? Or just go three pros. That would be cheaper. Wondering if I should pick them up today as they may sell out within a couple days once the game comes out.

Even if the left/right sides of a joycon work for Mario Kart, I couldn't imagine playing a "real" game like Mario Kart with that tiny ass controller. It was not fun to use it for a game as basic/simple as Snipper Clips. I couldn't imagine having to play Mario Kart where you are changing directions often and using the analog in a way more aggressive fashion than in Snipper Clips.

Playing Mario Kart on a sideways Wiimote is already a headache, couldn't imagine playing it on something half the size.

You're probably going to need to get a pro controller at some point anyway. If you need a second controller, go with that imo.

I feel the same. On the go a joycon may be acceptable, but at home I'm not interested in playing with a tiny gimped controller. I've read that different modes in MK8 only allow certain controller schemes. One screenshot I saw showed you can use a pro controller or a single left OR right joycon; But the joined joycon icon was greyed out with a slash through it. Which is really odd, so you really have to make a decision.

Assuming everyone has just the Joycons that came with the system, and assuming you're buying for 4 player multiplayer, you need at least:
1 more full joycon controller (L and R) so each person gets a half joycon - $80
2 pro controllers so two play with a pro and two play with a half joycon - $140
3 more full joycon controllers so each plays with a full joycon - $240
3 more pro controllers so three play with a pro and one plays with a full joycon - $210

If you just have a need for a 3rd controller, you can get a single joycon for $50, or a pro controller for $70.

And then there's the grips!!! Another $15 (for one non-charging grip) - $90 (for 3 charging grips). This is seriously a system of nickel and dimes.

Seems pro controllers are the better value, hands down. But then of course early adopters get stuck with the basic grey ones when (speculating) Nintendo decides to released colors in a few months, if you care about that sort of thing. Ugh. I think I've talked myself out of it. Recently we've only ever had up to three people playing at any given time anyways. I've already got a pro controller for single player, so I may just buy a red or blue full Joycon with a charging grip for $110, and get that purchase out of the way. We'd be able to play 3 players with a full controller or 4 players with half joycons.

The problem with Pro controllers, which I found out the hard way when someone here posted about it after I already bought two Pro controllers, is that not every game supports them. They aren't recognized as normal controllers, the specific game has to have support added for the the Pro controllers. I own Snipperclips clips and you can't use Pro controllers with it.

Nintendo really wants you to get Joycons but I really don't like the Joycons at all. It's just not comfortable to use in the the grip. I tried them out on day one and have never used them again.

I am not even going to read through that whole PDF but I'm assuming it's Nintendo's launch numbers for the Switch. I don't think anyone thought the Switch was going to had a bad launch. No console does. It's how it does a year down the road that really matters.

Hell I bought a Switch and I still think it's going to flop hard. But I bought it strictly for Nintendo titles this time around so I'm not concerned about it not having any 3rd party support.

It shows Nintendo fiscal year numbers. It isn't switch specific and remember they still sell a lot of 3DS stuff to buffer it a bit.

People said the switch would likely not do well not that Nintendo themselves are going to do badly. You really have to wait until a year after the console launch to see how it pans out. They had Zelda which is enough to sell it. If they don't get Mario out there it will be a bad year for it.

Yeah the fact that the Pro Controller doesn't always work is a big bummer, but frankly I like the Pro Controller so much it just makes me play Snipperclips less. I think HD Rumble is better on the Pro Controller (at least for GEM) and the dpad is way better (probably the best dpad I have had in decades). At this point it is my favorite Nintendo controller, and I bought a second one in anticipation for Mario Kart so a visiting friend doesn't have to use the "Madcatz" grip. I knew I would need another before Fire Emblem Warriors came out so why not today?

I did get an extra set of neon blue joycons, and I regret that because I never use them because my grey ones were a tighter fit on the rails. In fact right now they are with Nintendo for a RMA because of the wireless flaw and the rail issue. What really sucks is I sold my NES Classic to pay for them, I could have sold it now for what the Switch is worth. The only good thing about them is they will allow me to send in my grey joycons too (I am 100% sure its a design flaw with first gen models at this point) without downtime as long as the ones I get back are actually fixed. I hope my wife really likes ARMs as that was 90% of my reason to buy an extra set.

I am super looking forward to Mario Kart at this point, I am kinda Zeldaed out despite not beating the game yet. I just don't have the gaming stamina for huge open world games anymore. I keep playing Has-Been-Heroes or GEM instead because they are a smaller commitment (and amazing games). I almost bought Puyo-Puyo Tetris and I might if they ever have an shop sale on it. I just like the Japanese demo too much to not give them some money eventually.

LOL wtf is that screen protector? Looks like the ceiling in the basement at my moms house.
It's the reflection of the ceiling
Managed to get a single spec of dust behind the screen protector but since it's on the bezel and not the actual display it's fine.

Mostly I meant this doomsayer, though I think some other people felt the same way:

Oh this console launch is even worse than I thought. Nearly everything I have feared for months is coming true -- grossly overpriced, grossly underpowered, gimped storage capacity (hence they didn't discuss it), low resolution screen, very bad battery life, extremely weak launch line-up and close to non-existent 3rd party game support.

...

These prices are atrocious given the anemic hardware and software support on offer.

...

As far as I can see it, Nintendo is basically done for home consoles. This is even worse than the Wii or Wii U since at least those consoles undercut the competition.

I mean, I sold my spare switch for $360 a month after release. The storage capacity "issue" (it's not if you buy cartridges) can be instantly erased by installing a 128GB micro sd card, which can be found for $40 on amazon. The people who care about bleeding edge technology and performance already have a PC 5X as powerful as the next best console.

The switch has been sold out since it was released. 2.74 million units sold through March, probably damn close to 4 million if you include April. For comparison purposes, the "gold standard success" of the PS4 was 4.2 million units sold in the first month and a half. I think you can look at the numbers and put 1 and 1 together and realize the switch would have actually beaten the PS4 sales record if it wasn't constrained by manufacturing limitations.

And all this before mariocart, mario, virtual console, splatoon, or any other big games released other than zelda. It's just going to get better through the rest of the year, but I'm not even sure what is better than selling every single unit they can produce.

Bought "Mr Shifty" yesterday. This might be my favorite 3rd party game so far. I was a huge fan of Hotline Miami 1 & 2 and this is very similar game-play, except the ability to blink forward adds an interesting dynamic. After playing HM on keyboard and mouse, it's a nice change of pace to be playing Mr Shifty with a pro controller.

Well, I mean..he isn't wrong about the reasons. It's not our fault people are dumb and don't care about money. Maybe it's all the people who didn't get burned by the Wii U that jumped on it. It helps that Zelda didn't suck. What is curious though is they project an additional 10mn units sold in the next year. It 'could' happen if Mario is a hit.
