Playing Shin Megami Tensei IV on my 3DS has me really excited about what Shin Megami Tensei V could look like on the Switch. Ugh if only it didn't look like it was at least two years out (SMT V just went into full scale development). If the series can be this much fun on crap 3DS graphics I can't wait to see SMT with Persona 5 level graphics, which Switch should easily be able to handle since P5 was developed mainly for the PS3.

Finally got Zelda BOW. What a gorgeous game. Fog, rain, etc. I know everyone was knocking the horsepower when the Switch came out, but I think they did a terrific job with the graphics, has a great look to it.

Pretty crazy that it has an estimated 140 square miles of playable surfaces:

It's a great game to graduate kids from Minecraft into as well...lots of stuff to explore & do, and the open-world thing is always fun for exploring. Nintendo is killing it with the Switch. I hope they keep pumping out great games like this & Odyssey!

I think it has great art design but it's extremely easy to tell that BotW would look a million times better on more powerful hardware. Less slowdowns, less jaggies, better view distances (which are pretty important in this game) , it begs for more powerful hardware.

Mario + Rabbids is $30 (usual $60) at Best Buy this week. Sales usually end Saturday. It's a great single player game, a la XCOM, constantly introducing new mechanics to make it ever more challenging. Co-op is lacking IMO, as you have to progress quite far into single player before unlocking any real replay value in co-op. But it's still quite fun.

Thinking outside the box a bit, it could be especially fun if you have young'uns (which I don't) who mess up a lot, which would require you to adjust your strategy based on what they do. You can even make it a mission to provide cover for them, with the end goal to have them win the level.

Is it the next entry though, or a Wii U rehash?

My guess is new, based on (1) the name ("Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros") and (2) the fact that they have the Inklings from Splatoon.

Would be amazing if they allowed for 12-way multi-player, haha. a la Mario Kart.

I was going to get this on the PS4 but now I think I'll be buying it on my Switch!

Same, been toying with the idea of getting a PS4 for VR & the Crash remake. I haven't had a lot of free time with work in awhile & am finally getting caught up on gaming, whoohoo!

Yeah My PS4 gaming time is limited to late night after the toddlers are in bed. I'm too tired by then so I grabbed a Switch a couple months ago to game intermittently during the day. I know the feeling!

Crash on Switch is perfect IMO. That kind of game is something I'd definitely just sit and play on an airplane. That new Toad game looks pretty damn cool too, although I hope you can walk faster than they show. Mario Aces also looks very good as they showed more features from the game.

Splatoon and Smash Brothers I couldn't care less about.

Yeah, that's how Toad walks now apparently. It was the same in Super Mario 3D World for Wii U. It works in the game, though, as you have to spin the world/camera around quite a lot to navigate him though the puzzles and having him be slow and steady rather than a momentum building race horse is appreciated. I feel like the amount of tip-toeing you'd have to do anyway would be more of a nuisance than him just walking slow off the bat.

Gotcha. I'll probably end up getting it as it looked like a lot of fun and appears to be in the Odyssey world for at least a bit of it.

Isn't it just a remaster of Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker from the Wii U? I think that's what I read in that it's the full game with some new Switch-exclusive levels. If that's the case, you could probably look up the Wii U game to see if you'd be interested. Although, since it's really meant to be more of a puzzle game, I don't know if I'd be as worried about the speed.

I dunno because they said it has Mario Odyssey levels in it, including New Donk city. They also said they are bringing it to the DS.

It's a port with extra stuff on it not a totally new game.

Just like Smash Bros is highly unlikely to be brand new, ported over with new stuff thrown in kinda like Splatoon on the Switch was not a true sequel, more like a 1.5 version instead of a 2.

This year is the year of ports on the Switch it seems. Sure they are getting ports of good games and I'll buy many of them but not many original games. I said precisely this, after the first stellar year, they weren't going to have much new stuff in the second year and they aren't.

Since I never had a Wii-U quite a few of these games are new to me so that's fine by me. I'm looking forward to the Kirby game, Mario Aces, Donkey Kong Country, probably that Toad game, and if the Yoshi game comes out, then that too.

There are indications that it's a new game rather than a port:

  • All other ports are shown (c) their original publishing year and then 2018. The Smash Bros teaser just showed (c) 2018.
  • The logos for Sora and Bandai Namco, devs that involved with Smash Wii U/3DS, are absent from the teaser. If it was a port, they would have been credited.
  • Breath of the Wild style Link. Why update Link's design, and draw attention to it, if it's just a port?
  • The way it was revealed. They're keeping an air of mystery to it. If it was a simple port, what would be the point of keeping things secret?
So I'm pretty sure it's a new game. Just how much of it is "original" remains to be seen. I mean, it can't be as much of a technical leap over Smash Wii U as SWU was over Brawl. But I think it's a bit premature to declare just how much new content and features the game will have. Let's wait and see.

Captain Toad can run. It's been a few years since I played the game, but if I recall correctly it was done by holding down A.
