People seem to be having issues with scratching the surface when docking
I can definitely see that. I'm pretty careful when putting it in the dock and placing it in slowly and same when I take it out, but it's still stupid that there aren't pads to protect the screen. The dock in general feels like a cheap piece of shit that should cost like $20. There is this piece on it that folds for a little bit of wire management but man, the whole thing just feels so cheap. The thing is flimsy and light. I think my portable USB hard drive weighs more than it does.

And @gus6464 pics of reef tank?

Slept at my in-laws last night as my house is under construction for minor repairs and got to try out switch portable mode and battery life. Played zelda in bed for about 2 hours and unit had ~65-70% battery left so I think I can get about 4-5 hours on it which is line with 3DS.

But the thing I was most impressed at is how it barely sips power in sleep mode. The batter counter didn't even move overnight.

I saw no Switches in stock at my local Walmart this morning. They did have 12 copies of Switch Zelda in the display case though and I think a couple of JustDance and some other game. No copies of the Zelda WiiU version left.

My friend brought his switch home last night and we compared the wiiu and switch versions of Zelda. It's almost similar, the wiiu is a little more laggy in some scenes

Unfortunately the Switch is very laggy as well. Tons of framerate slowdown in docked TV mode.

My fiancée also wants a Pro controller for herself. She thinks it's much better than the Joycons in the grip. She's a 5ft Asian so she doesn't have big hands at all.

Damn, my dock scratched my Switch screen. Luckily nothing major but still bad design by Nintendo. Be careful everyone.

I ordered a glass screen protector after reading reports of that on Reddit. I also have improved, but not fixed the left joycon connectivity issue. Seems all you need to do is a restart of the switch after installing the latest update. It's better, but still an issue.

I preordered one like a month ago but its the only accessory I don't have that I ordered sadly. I always use glass screen protectors.

Also I picked up a new stand because the default one would suck on a long plane trip. Target has the Hori stands for $13 that sell for $40+ on EBay. Has three angle adjustments and a place for the charger to fit. Now all I need is a new battery pack and I finished accessory shopping for it.

Wow.

This console is going to flop worse than the Wii U, which I thought was underrated.

There is no reason for the dock at all. The same thing could have been achieved with a long cable providing power and video output to tv. He dock has no processing power. All it does is scratch your screen? Horrible design.

Heck the dock coulda been a cradle like the Wii U tablet charger, can't believe its scratching!

I actually checked my broker to see if I could short Nintendo stock. Mine can't unfortunately. The stock is down a bit since fall, but it is still way above 2014 levels.

Definitely has room to short.

This console is going to flop so hard.

On the lines of scratches... interesting reading from a "skin" maker on the Switch:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5xc5si/warning_do_not_skin_your_nintendo_switch/

"We’re here to make a public service announcement that under no circumstances should you be buying a vinyl skin / wrap for your Nintendo Switch. Seems like a counter-intuitive narrative from the world’s leading skin manufacturer, right? Allow us to explain.

Simply put, the coating which exists on the JoyCons (and the console – more on that later) is either cured or designed in a way which doesn’t play well with adhesive"

I'm confident Nintendo did this on purpose to keep sales for their "bundles" that come at a marketed price with different colors/graphics. Pretty shitty move by nintendo.

There's absolutely no way the engineers who designed the Switch / Dock didn't see the scratching issue.

It MUST have been reported at some point. It's also why it just so happens that they've prepared for it by coincidentally selling us a separate officially-branded screen protector from day one. You know, instead of including it with the console because it's an inherent problem that comes from the very [bad] design of the Dock itself. Make no mistakes, the people who make the games at Nintendo are definitely not the same as the ones who make the hardware, as well as the ones who create the business models for their products. Some of them are crass, and the whole screen scratching issue was seen internally long ago as a potential extra source of revenue. In my book there's absolutely no other explanations for this.

They might, one day, release a 'revised' Switch version with maybe, just maybe a different Dock model, or they'll include their official screen protector in future bundles; but not before at least two years from now. If there's enough (a crap load) of social pressure about it then maybe they'll accelerate for a 'solution', but do not count on a massive recall of their units. That just won't happen.

As someone who bought the Switch and has been enjoying Zelda, I am pretty confident that it's going to flop.

So I was just playing in portable mode and the battery flashed saying 15% was left. I then plugged it into my laptop to charge and I saw the lightning bolt to let me know it was in fact charging.

Then I saw the 5% battery light flash and I unplugged the cable and plugged it back in just to be sure it didn't get disconnected some how.

Then it said 1%.

So this shit loses power while you are playing it if you are just charging it via USB? That is so fucking retarded. There is no way that can happen when docked though right?

Yeah for it to charge more than it eats playing games you need either the official charger or a USB PD Type C charger.

I am learning this as I try to buy the right battery pack for it

While docked it drops down to 88% while playing. It definitely eats up a ton of battery. Pretty funny that it can't even stay fully charged while docked and playing. But it doesn't drop further than that while docked.
