While playing in handheld mode with my Nexus 6p charger hooked up to it the battery life is definitely going up while I play. Unless your laptop has a native type c port it's not going to be able to provide enough juice to charge while playing.

I'm not sure what it has it's a MacBook Pro from 2014.

I also noticed that when I use the charger that came with my pro controller and try to charge on my outlet that has 2 USB ports on it, depending how I have the USB C plug in the pro controller or switch it won't charge. If it doesn't work, I pull it out and flip it over and then it works. Very odd.

People seem to be having issues with scratching the surface when docking

apparently the screen is plastic instead of gorilla glass like it should have been. Way to go Nintendo.

No on the first one. You need the RAVPower USB PD model if you want to charge the Switch properly:

The Anker one should be fine though. I bought it last night for my Switch, I will test and report back when I get it.

Pretty much those are the only two battery packs out there that can charge the Switch while playing Zelda. With any others (including the first one you linked) it will drain faster than it charges.

Why? Glass shatters, and plastic won't under the same load. Gizmoslip dropped the switch numerous times on it's face and the screen didn't shatter or break. Seems like a win to me. iFixit as did a tear down of the Switch and the digitizer and lcd panel are separate. Seems like it wouldn't be hard to replace if it did break.

While docked it drops down to 88% while playing. It definitely eats up a ton of battery. Pretty funny that it can't even stay fully charged while docked and playing. But it doesn't drop further than that while docked.

I've heard the same, but mine didn't do it. When I take it off the dock it's at 100%. Did you experience this with your own unit, or are you just repeating a rumor?

Yeah mine didn't do that either. I think that was a problem with version 1 of the OS.

Can the Pro Controller be recharged via the Dock's USB ports? Also, is the USB Type-C to USB cable included with the Pro Controller necessary to recharge the JoyCons? As surprising as it may seem, the Switch's Pro Controller will be my very first wireless controller. I've always used wired controllers from the NES days to now. So the whole charging shenanigans is new for me.

Yes. That is also one way you can sync the Pro Controller to the Switch.

No, the Joycons charge when they are on the Switch. If you want to charge them outside of that you need the $30 charging grip (and don't get it, I have one and it is a piece of crap for the money).

It only happens to me with Zelda, didn't happen to me while playing Bomberman or Snipperclips.

I know the fan spins quite often in docked mode, but I've only noticed the fan spin once when playing Zelda in portable mode. Other than that, it's been dead silent and plays like a dream. I can't believe I drained the batter from 100% to 5% in one play through. I'd like it too last longer, but I should probably stop playing. Game is so good though...

I ended up finding a Switch at Best Buy on Friday. They had one in the back and said it was the last one. Grey controllers, which is what I wanted. I found a Pro controller at Target on Saturday (also the last one), but Walmart had a ton of them when I went there later looking for other accessories. I also bought the official screen protector (lol) and two Amiibos that work with the game. Joycons are ridiculously expensive, though, so I won't be buying more until I absolutly needed. Especially after the Wii's Motion Sensor Plus crap. I ended up having like 9 Wii remotes.

As for the Switch, though, this thing is freaking awesome! I haven't been this excited about console gaming since Gamecube. I took it with me while I got my car fixed on Saturday and ran around Hyrule for probably 3 hours in the waiting room. I didn't check the battery percentage left on it, but the controllers said they were at full capacity when I redocked it. That probably doesn't mean anything, though.

I've noticed the slowdown issue while running through some fields in Zelda. It just happens briefly for a second or two. It's barely noticeable, but doesn't bother me. I've never been a complainer when a game dips below 60 FPS or whatever.

I found out the hard way that the little wrist straps can be put on backwards and they are a pain in the ass to remove. Make sure you line them up + + or - -.

Bottom line, for what it is, a new home console/ new portable console all in one, $300 is a steal.

Zelda rarely drops frames in portable mode but in docked it drops frames a lot, while fighting too. It's really annoying.

The sheer amount of detail zelda has for the little stuff is quite astonishing. I just found out that you can tie balloons to the random barges you see in lakes and then blow them out to sea to get to the far away shrines surrounded by water.

The guy trying to convince you not to jump off the bridge, etc. The attention to detail is quite crazy in the game.

Even though I am waiting for a set of glass screen protectors I went and bought the crappy official protector at GameStop today just so I wouldn't be scared to use the dock. Kinda sucks.

I did the same thing, bought the film protector at Gamestop then ordered the glass one from Amazon on back order.

I've just left my switch in the dock for the time being. As for the controller, I have really large hands, nba large hands. I couldn't really use a standard n64 controller because my hand didn't fit well into the trident, almost easier to reach the middle joystick by holding the left fork of the trident. I also liked the original duke xbox controller.

The pro controller is far better than the joycons but I feel that I'm trying to pull it apart when I hold it, like a wishbone. The handles are at a weird angle.

I'm so glad I bought the Pro controller, I do not like the Joycons at all and I don't even have big hands. Obviously in portable mode they are fine, because well it's portable but putting them in the grip does not feel right. Buttons too small, sticks small and not having great range of motion, plus the stick placement being directly above and below the buttons, it just doesn't feel good to me.

I understand the concessions that had to be made to make a them portable, which I'm fine with in portable mode, but it just doesn't cut it for docked TV home use.

I had an issue with the joycons in BotW when I'd move forward the left stick would press down and go into crouching mode. Makes it a pain when I'm trying to jump off a cliff or run from something. I do not have this issue with the pro controller. Hope it's just me and not an issue with my left stick.

I have very large hands, too, but I have no issues with the controllers. I bought a Pro just because, and other than the triggers on the pro being better and the minus button easier to press behind the left stick, I don't really have a preference, to be honest. I haven't tried using a Joycon in each hand, yet though. I'm not sure how you guys are playing where it's actually uncomfortable, unless it's a personal "wideness" issue where your shoulders are further apart than mine or something, so you're coming at it from a obtuse angle?

Ars has a couple interesting articles on the Switch today...

The first is a potential identification for what's wrong with the left Joycon controller, and unfortunately, it's a hardware problem. The Joycon literally doesn't have a wire for its antenna, so it's relying on an on-board antenna. The other Joycon does have a wire.

The second is how Nintendo has removed the Switch Dock from their online store. There hasn't been an official announcement, but the rumor is that it's due to the scratching. Although, strangely enough, while I read the article (and it's awkward photo of someone "fixing" the problem with pantyhose), I can't seem to find it on their site anymore.
