Unless you ride the train for two hours every day and have down time at work on top of that.
You are allowed to play games while at work? I'd never think of pulling out a portable and gaming while at work even if I had down time.

I am having a REALLY hard time seeing the value in a Switch. I have not bought a Wii U and I have no portables except my trustee Game Boy DMG-01 either. After seeing the Switch and having skipped the Wii U being underwhelmed, I have to say, I feel the same way still. Just, meh. Which is saying something since I have bought, and still have and play working originals of every single console Nintendo has put out up to the Wii. NES, SNES, N64, GameCube (well this one is currently at my brother's house, but I am in process of trying to get it back, I play the games on the Wii though), and of course, Wii.

Ive never cared for the handheld offerings from Nintendo but for the first one, always boggling at why they do what they do. Game Boy, fine, first one out of the gate, black and white, good battery life overall for the time, games are solid. Game Boy Color! Alright, a color scr... oh, it's color... but no backlight? COME ON! Skipped that one. Alright! Game Boy Advance! YES! Oh, its basically a rehashed SNES... and wtf... STILL no backlight? Nintendo what are you doing? Skipped that one too. Every other handheld since I've not cared for, for one reason or another. Now this, essentially releasing both a handheld and a home console at the same time.

I love Nintendo, don't get me wrong, but I'm just not sure how I feel about any of this yet. Maybe it's the right move, maybe it's just me, since most of those handhelds above did pretty well despite my misgivings about them. But I'm just not impressed. Yet. Games could change that. I withhold final judgment. But I'll admit, I'm not optimistic.
What handheld with a color screen and/or backlight had even a fraction of the success of Game Boy back in the day? Game Gear? With their 6 AA batteries that lasted maybe 3 hours? Rehashed SNES? I think that was the point. Handheld has always been behind console. Putting a SNES quality game into a handheld was appealing to millions of people. I can play LTTP on the go? Take my money!

Edit: AA, not AAA

Down time is down time. It's no different than reading a book, listening to music, or killing time on the Internet. Edit: And it sure is better than letting my brain cells slowly burn out by watching the daytime TV my coworkers like to leave on.

I suppose it depends on the type of work and company. I'd be fired for that but can get away with web browsing. Still wasting time but no one knows. If they walked into my office and I was holding a portable game unit though I'd be busted! lol

Yeah, defintely depends on the culture. If there's a break room you can probably get away with it without a second look. If I'm just sitting at my desk between calls, at least on my phone I can say I was reading my email. I can always "go out to lunch", but really just sit in my car if I wanted to carry a game to work.

He seriously missed out on some unique experiences. WarioWare Twisted for GBA and countless DS games.

In other news turns out the Joycon issues are a manufacturing problem and Nintendo admitted it and are replacing faulty ones:

https://www.engadget.com/amp/2017/03/22/nintendo-switch-joy-con-disconnect-variation/

I need to get on that my blue set has a terrible left Joycon. I never use it because one you get a pro controller the grip might as well be a damn Madcatz controller, but I will want it working well before ARMs comes out.

I do kind of think Nintendo could handle this better for customers and are doing serious damage control. Hope mine isn't that way when it arrives.

Apple's Siri remote is $80. Apple didn't even ask me for a credit card when they shipped a replacement just after the Apple TV 4th gen launch in late 2015. It had all the stuff for returning the original. My original remote wouldn't click consistently on the right side.

That said, Nintendo doesn't have the financial resources of Apple and the Siri remote is even more over-priced than Joy-Cons are. It's all profit for Apple.

Apparently they are doing overnight shipping for some people. But yeah it's a pain no matter what which is why I hate I have to do it.

That's good to hear at least. I haven't had an issue with my left joycon so far but it basically just sits connected to the Switch.

How are you guys testing your joycons to know they are bad enough to warrant replacement? I've been playing with the pro controller and I only played with a wireless joycon the first day or two from about 8 feet. It disconnected once, but even my Pro Controller disconnected a few times when I was scanning Amiibos from the same distance.

To be fair, my Switch dock actually sits behind my wall mounted TV. I do sit about 10-12 ft away. I will say the right Joycon works with no issues from that distance, it's just the left one that constantly disconnects. I went out and bought a Pro controller, so I don't have to deal with it anymore, but I will send mine out for repair. I also have an HideIT mount coming for my Switch Dock, so I need to find room for my Shield TV, Alienware Alpha. and Switch behind my TV...

So a serious question. If I play with a pro controller or in portable mode all the time do I even need to worry about the joycon issue? I know that sounds a bit odd because one should want their stuff to work right and knowing it may not be kicks in some people's OCD but I guess I am wondering if there is something that can not be played without the joycons detached.

I don't think you can play sniper clips multiplayer with the joycons attached, unless you had a lot of pro controllers around.

Snipperclips won't use the Pro Controller period.

To test if yours has a problem just play some Zelda with the grip. It's an obvious problem then- you start running in one direction and can't stop if you have the issue.

I'll keep that in mind.

I played both my game boy and the game gear I had for a short time on ac adapter most of the time. So batteries were a non issue for me.

I admitted they did well despite my misgivings. These were things I, me, myself, didn't care for. Not you or anyone else. Why you felt you had to contradict my opinions as if I was dead wrong I don't know but nothing you say will change my mind. Those are my opinions of the Nintendo handhelds, I never thought they were worth buying so I didn't, I liked their consoles a lot better.

I'm glad you liked the handhelds, that is fantastic, a lot of people did. But I am SO SORRY (not sorry) that I don't feel the same way you do. =)

I likely won't get a Switch either the way it is looking right now. Again that could change, but so far, very underwhelming.

...and we are back to square one. As others have said before, if you don't want Zelda it's not worth getting now. There are no other really great exclusives. It's that simple. It's not that difficult a concept to understand. The games lineup sucks right now. It should be better this time next year but you'll have to decide if the releases are worth buying the switch to have.

My apologies that I sounded like I was attacking all your opinions. To be honest, I only chose a couple of them to address. I could have went on and on.

You are correct. You did say "maybe it's just me", to which I was going to respond "yes, it's just you", but I didn't want it to come across as an direct dig, so I edited that sentence. Regardless of that you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, but a forum is where people debate things.

I personally didn't judge the system that at the time was advancing the possibilities of handheld gaming because it didn't have a feature that nothing else had. Is the lack of games the reason you don't own a switch, or do have a problem with something else it's missing? The first Game Boy with a backlight was the GBA SP (which coincidentally was the first with a built-in battery), which improved on the GBA, which already had a color screen. It was backwards compatible all the way back so it played every Game Boy game in existence at the time. It had a clamshell that protected the screen, and was $99. Can you tell me why that wasn't appealing?

Yep, that's why I've waited. GameStop's $175 credit for a Wii U tempted me, but I ultimately decided I would rather now throw $125 in cash at a Switch I wouldn't play. I'd rather wait, then maybe have to get only $100-125 when I know I'll play some games, If that's the route I go. I'm not a Zelda person, and it seems Odyssey (which IDK I'd even actually play) is the first game of any intrigue for me on the Switch. If they would do a Mario Party more in the vein of pre-MP9 (individual board movement and actual star collection, maybe fully animated amiibo with support for more than just characters already in-game), I would have a greater interest. I want my Nintendo console to play with other people, not just play Fire Emblem alone in a corner.

So I have played two of the Splatoon 2 Testfire sessions so far and holy crap that game is fun. I like the emphasis on painting over killing, and once I found out how to tweak the motion controls the controls were very smooth for me. Also the frame rate was rock solid, it never dropped for a second. Definitely going to preorder it now.

I wish they had a proper beta not these weird one hour times. Unfortunately I won't be able to get in on any of them as the game looks fun.

Splatoon 2 is gonna be great. I noticed in the test fire that a well rounded team is required or you are screwed. Not only is killing others but also map control is very important. If you don't have a roller on your team it's hard to win. Also rollers are not only for map control but they can also stealth gank if you know what you are doing.

So I finished off my preorders for the year today and I realized I am matching my entire attach rate for my Wii's entire life in year one of owning a Switch which is crazy because I bought a lot of stupid Wii games.

This year for me in order:

BOTW
1 2 Switch
Snipperclips
I am Setsuna
Fast RMX
Shovel Knight Treasure Trove
Has Been Heroes
Graceful Explosion Machine
MK8D
Ultra Street Fighter 2 (maybe)
ARMs
Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Dragonball Xenoverse 2
Mario Odyssey

And Puyo Puyo Tetris maybe as a way of saying thanks for their awesome few demo.
