LOL Nintendo left out the price increase to $70 for Tears of the Kingdom in their Direct.

Appears you could have preordered at $60.

If you belong to Switch Online (and don't mind digital) you can buy a $100 voucher for two games, and ToTK is one of the eligible games. If you also belong to Costco or Sam's Club you might be able to get $100 in eShop cards at a discount.

That game is just crying for the HDR treatment. Oh well. I bet they have plans to sell the HDR Remastered version when their next console arrives.

With how light today's Direct was on interesting new games gotta wonder if that next gen system is coming sooner rather than later. Because Switch's cupboard looks bare as hell for 2023 outside of Tears.

If it's going to run terribly like BOTW did on Wii U no thanks, I'll wait for the next gen system.

I'm very happy to have Metroid Prime Remaster, but we probably won't see Metroid Prime 4 until late 2024 at the earliest given how Nintendo likes to spread things out. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 2025 or later and another split-system release.

Does look that way. I would be surprised if the Switch 2 is released this year though. Early next year more likely.

Just ordered the physical release, should arrive in about a month though, but I can wait.

So far its received very good reviews and selling like hot cakes, hopefully we get 2 and 3 remastered as well before the 4th.

I'm kinda pumped about it, I love the series and never played it, but was bummed the deliver on the release seemed fumbled? But I'll grab it when I can get a physical copy.

Need them sooner or later, I already burned through the first. I want to play through again on hard mode, will give it a short break before doing so.

I don't think I've touched the original since about 2004, but the remaster looked and sounded and felt just like I remembered. I can't believe the game is 20 years old. It doesn't feel nearly that old. The combat is relatively simple, but that's really the only thing I can knock it for. I expected it to feel more clunky but it doesn't. The default control scheme is really good. Only potential drawback is visor and weapon swapping. Since the right stick is now aim it's no longer available for weapon swap. Both use the d-pad, with weapons also requiring a face button modifier. You can swap whether visors or weapons use the d-pad unmodified, so at least there's that. I also wish you could swap left/right stick controls in the map - it uses left stick to rotate view angle and right stick to pan, opposite the modern convention, but doesn't take long to adapt to.

I got my copy earlier than expected. So far enjoying it and using hybrid controls. Really like the graphic atheistic, its a nice 3D interpretation of the 2D games, I've never played the prime series before, just the mainline 2D games.

My one disappointment so far is difficulty, please give me hard mode from the start. I wonder if I should wait for an update, but who knows if they give us that option.

It's weird how there was a shortage of the physical release. It was nowhere to be found around here when it was released (the 22nd). I found Best Buy had it on sale on Monday for store pickup tomorrow. However I got a message last night that it was there so I snagged it.

I am going to finish up Kena before I start it though. I'm excited to play it as it's been since that game launched on GC that I last played it.

It's been number 1, or top 3 in Nintendo game sales the past month. They really didn't expect the huge demand. Amazon came through in the end with my order yesterday.(Canada)

Low supply for peripherals and physical game copies has been a Nintendo issue for a while. The official Nintendo Gamecube controller adapter launching aroudn Smash Bros sold out before I knew it was a thing. For a while I thought it was because they got burned on the Wii-U but it never correlates at all with the success of the Switch console itself so it's just Nintendo doing their thing. I vaguely remember a statement from Nintendo back in the Wii days or early Wii-U period regarding special editions of games, saying that they would produce a limited volume of things so that people who were able to get one could feel special about it. They mostly just underestimate demand, and continue to do so a decade on for more than just special editiosn. I don't purchase physical copies anymore, unless there's an art book in a special edition, so it doesn't really affect me on the games. Better peripheral availability would be really nice though.

The difficulty of Prime is pretty low. I was surprised because I didn't remember it being that easy. Maybe I just sucked at games 20 years ago. I was able to get through the remaster without a single death, though I came close on one boss. It looks like you have to complete it on hard mode to finish unlocking all the art.

I never, ever pre-order games after seeing too many people get burned on hype garbage but I just had to pull the trigger on Tears of the Kingdom. BotW was just too damn good.

I wasn't thrilled about the increased price point so I opted instead to buy the two vouchers for $100. That brings the price down to $50.

Better yet, Costco was (is?) selling $50 Nintendo gift cards online for $45. I grabbed two for $90, loaded them to my account and used the funds to buy the vouchers. I got the TotK pre-order for $45 and have another game coming in the future for $45. Even if the Zelda sequel blows the vouchers and gift cards means I won't be out too much lost cash so the risk was worth it in my eyes.

If you had purchased the physical one and it blows, you could probably sell it for $50, and only be out $20

Very true. Dynamic that I didn't include: I have three kids who will play it regardless so I wouldn't sell it if I think it blows. I'm just doing the cost- benefit from my perspective.

sequel to breath of the wild has a different name. arriving in may, allegedly.

The super sale they have going on is garbage. its 3 games and I dont need or want any of them (including 4 different versions of Luigis Mansion).
Second part of sale starts in a couple weeks and has Mario Kart and DLC.

I am liking the Switch but not loving it. I appreciate one good console as opposed to a pair of crappy devices. I like that the mobile console IS the home console, that should help with game development and the game library.
Those little flash cartridges are sturdier and faster than optical media.

But the games right now are just meh, and in fact most of the appeal right now is they remade a lot of popular stuff just so people can play it on the newest console. But they charge full price and thats annoying. I paid full price for Breath Of the Wild and I really don't wanna repurchase it. I did NOT like repurchasing Mario Kart 8 and even worse, because they fowled up their Nintendo eAccount and My Nintendo account crossover, my progress did not carry over. That was a lot of work.

I am so glad they gave up on motion controls. That was more annoying than anything.

They announced this last year. Considering the title (Tears of the Kingdom), it was eerie timing; they announced the title and release date days after Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

So while waiting for whenever my physical copy of Metriod Prime arrives, decided to just pick up Bloodstained Ritual of the Night. Seems to be well recieved and right up my alley.

The motion controls are actually awesome in Super Mario Odyssey, very intuitive and I strongly prefer using them on split joycons with the system docked to playing the game any other way. The motion control is just for throwing the cap. I did hate the motion controls for shooting arrows in BOTW though.

Switch does have some real banging exclusives that aren't remakes or remasters. Off the top of my head
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Super Mario Maker 2 (the SP campaign is awesome)
  • Shin Megami Tensei V
  • Astral Chain
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2
  • Metroid Dread
  • Bayonetta 3
And that's even not caring about a lot of their big exclusive franchises like Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Splatoon, Smash Bros, Kirby, Luigi's Mansion, or Pikmin.

I also like it for more casual pick up and play for a few minutes games like Mario Tennis Aces, Yoshi's Crafted World, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Taiko no Tastujin, Dead Cells, Sonic Mania, etc. Though I am disappointed how bad some of the old school arcade ports were. For example VS Super Mario Bros has some really disgusting input lag making the game unplayable when you factor in that a lot of levels from the brutally hard Super Mario Bros 2 Japan were pulled straight from this arcade version of Super Mario Bros.

Ok so really enjoying Bloodstained, but am surprised my switch does have fps drop during certain times. So far my largest gripe with the game is the limited information your shards do (e.g. mostly with familars, like how much damage they do or other abilities they get as you level/rank them up).

Metroid Prime Remastered is fantastic. The game was so ahead of it's time. I can't believe the game is 20 years old. I am not anxiously awaiting MP4.

My only gripe really is all the back tracking, and the control of the map doesn't help with that. It just seems like there could be more links to the main overworld which would have helped with some of the backtracking, but there isn't.

Playing this now and having issues with controlling the map screen, I actually remember having those same issues when I played it at launch on Gamecube back in the day.

My younger son is enjoying it, I told him he can play it, but after I'm done with Bloodstained I'm going to want it back. I watched him play it for a bit and does look fun!
