On the point of pirates needing/being helped by AnyDVD, I want to point out an article I came across yesterday that claims that The Martian UHD disk was put online:

This is despite the fact that neither AnyDVD nor any other disc ripping product sold can do that right now (and drives that read them are hard to get too). That article also claims that Netflix and Amazon 4K offerings have been put on the internet by the same pirate group, which means basically streaming piracy knows no limits.
Given this I think the concept that products like AnyDVD are used mostly for piracy is false. Pirates have other sources, and people who pay for disks are more likely to pay for software.
