It seems Google has plans to somehow make an AI. George Dyson wrote, in an article in Edge about his visit to the plex, that one of the Google employees told him:
"We are not scanning all those books to be read by people. We are scanning them to be read by an AI."
This basically confirms the rumors I had been hearing lately about Google creating an artificial intelligence to be able to serach through all media, research, and basically write research papers on any questions that any person would ask it. It's hard for me to even comprehend being able to go to www.googleai.com (which they already have the rights to) and typing in something like "What would be another source of energy that human's could use to decrease their dependancy on oil?" into the search form and having it e-mail me a 10 page research paper (basically). I have heard rumors that they are almost completed passing the Turing test and plan to move onto applications shortly. This project could (and will I hope) be an information revolution in itself.
Any thoughts or further information/insight?
