those freebies are an incentive to make sure you are set up on Wallet so you can buy something next time. I think it's also a way to verify if you are in a certain geographical market. They won't charge you for this one.

Why do they want my credit card?

I've got my old card linked and it was cancelled months ago. For some reason they charge it as a CC transaction for $0.00. Goes through no problem even though the card is dead.
